Please Respond quickly!

So, I remember in my youth having possibly commited a very serious act. It is very likely that this did occur. However, during my youth I had no idea what mortal or venial sin were, i had very little understanding about my faith. However, the act commited should obviously have been wrong (during my youth i would do things [or atleast think them] that were obviously wrong, because they were wrong. to put it simple, I chose to be evil)

I’m wondering if I have to confess this. Ive confessed something similar to this while confessing past sins, but did not recall this particular instance, should i confess this instance specifically? Or was it taken care of when I made a general confession (it was probably only similar to this instance, because this one which I am mentioning is much more serious, i think, then what i confessed in the past)

However, there is some confusiong because can i be guilty of something I knew was wrong, but did not know was “sin” because i didn’t understand sin.

If i am guilt of it, then would it be grave matter?

Now, I seek to avoid all sin, because I love my Lord.
But in my youth, i was a different person, and even if I understood what sin was, there is a chance (looking back) that I still might have commited the act, because again, “I chose to be evil”

please respond quickly! and thank you

May The Lord Bless You All!

If you are in doubt, bring it up in your next Confession. We are not your Confessor (nor should we be!), so we cannot advise you in a particular way.

In general, if one sincerely did not know it was a grave sin, and have been to Confession since then, one would have been forgiven for that sin. But I would still recommend bringing it up in your next Confession. It can only help bring you clarity.

Do not suffer so much.
Say to Jesus: Jesus, Son of God, my Savior, forgive me such XXXXX and such YYYYY sins and all the past sins that I remember and that I have forgotten. I promise to do my best not to sin again. I love You. Make my Love to you Last forever and Lead me not into temptation and deliver me from evil. Amen.

Then, when you find an occasion, confess all that comes to your mind and finish it once and for all: tell the priest that you confess all your sins, the ones that you forgot also. Stop with that searching otherwise you will have piece no more. cheers, 👍

Since you were not aware of the seriousness of the sins, you may not be culpable. That is a matter between you and your confessor. It sounds like since you know it was “wrong”, you knew it was sinful. Discuss with your confessor using generalities. You may not have to go into specifics unless he asks, and then only to the degree where any further would be unduly uncomfortable. Granted, discomfort is part of reconciliation, but the intention is not to beat yourself up.

Let me share one thing I learned from a priest during confession. At the end of my confession, as part of the Act of Contrition, I always say, “For these and any other sins I may have committed, I am truly sorry.” This is kind of a catch all and probably works for venial sins. However, all mortal sins need to be confessed by name.

Peace and grace.

Sound advice. 👍 I concur.

First of all don’t worry so much about past sins.IF you love Jesus and have confessed sins that you are aware of ,think mostly how to please God now and move forward.Im sure most of us have committed sins in our youth that we are sorry for.IF a particular sin bugs you,and you want to clear your conscience then simply tell the priest that sin and say"and for this sin and for all the sins I have committed in the past I am sincerely sorry".Once you have made that confession calling to mind all the sins that you can remember ,stop thinking about the past.God(Jesus) doesn’t want us to dwell on our past but to do His wlll now starting today. When we concentrate on doing His will we won’t think about the past.God bless YOu.
