A Texas pastor is preaching in favor of more sex.

In Grapevine, Texas, according to a New York Times article, pastor Ed Young, of the evangelical Fellowship Church, is urging his married congregants to strengthen their conjugal bonds through more frequent sex.

“We should try to double up the amount of intimacy we have in marriage,” said Rev. Young, 47, married for 26 years, with four children.

Sexual relations bring couples closer together, and closer to God, as well, said Rev. Young, known as Ed. “If you’ve said, ‘I do,’ do it,” he said.

Rev. Young may be on to something, here, about strengthing marriages.

Hey Debbieeeeeee! Come look it this post! CAF is so awesome.

So, does this pastor share the same views about sexuality that Catholics do? Many are following NFP. Just curious. Not enough to tell from the article, but maybe during the “green light” days, we all should ‘double up.’ 😛

hmm
I don’t many people who are “sex starved”.

I know thousands who are affection starved.

And given that sex is just about every where these days, I find it rather non-sensical that we all should double up on it. Quantity doesn’t equal quality.

Just seems like a trite and rather empty claim.

I’d think that if the couple isn’t making an affection connection that doing it more would just really make them feel worse.

That said, it cracks my dh and I how often we hear people on birth control gripe about how they never have sex given that the #1 reason for using birth control is to be able to have sex as often as they want without getting pregnant!😃

**We’re always telling them that if they’d just get over being scared of wee helpless babies, they could have our sex life. 😉 **

After 30 years y’all must have it down to a science :yup:

I second whatever Debbie tells you!

On a serious note and to stay on topic - I agree with what Martha said 👍.

My husband and I are going on six years of marriage, and we’ve been leading diocesan marriage preparation retreats for a little over a year.

Since we’ve begun to lead these retreats, we’ve both been so much more in turn to each other’s needs and how we are different. We’ve been more appreciative and affectionate. We’ve been having a lot more sex! And this has totally richly blessed our marriage.

I agree that sex is a great moment of grace for married couples (can everybody say “sacrament”?), but I’m definitely uncomfortable with the theatrical presentation. But I guess that’s this church’s style.

I’d love to hear some Theology of the Body from the pulpit every now and then! So many people are under the impression that the Church somehow is against sex.

I liked “If you’ve said ‘I do’, then do it!”

Last year or the year before there was a preacher in one of the southern states that issued a 30-day challenge. I heard all about when he did it, but I never saw a follow-up article. Did it work?

I agree with Rob’s wife:thumbsup: , and you Leah…I think that’s how I feel about this too–the presentation of it seems a little strange.:o

Also…non Catholics feel often times that anything goes when it comes to ‘sex.’ (that it doesn’t always have to end in intercourse, my lutheran sister in law thinks this, anyways) So, I’m always a little more than hesitant to take the advice of non Catholic pastors. Just my two cents.

We all have to answer for how we live out our married life, but I would have thought after 26 years a marriage would be more focused on the “higher gifts,” more of a spiritual focus, and not so much giving-in to concupiscence. On the other hand, maybe if I’d been to one of Leah’s retreats (loved that answer), I’d feel differently. If only I’d heard that back in the day . . .

Hard to knock this advice. Couldn’t hurt and might actually be FUN to at least give it a try…(remember marriage can be fun!)

I’ve seen this man preach on TV. I actually appreciate his message and delivery…I think he is a very engaging speaker and so far am not aware of anything from him that would go against Catholic teachings.

In a loving marriage, it’s not “giving-in” to anything.
It’s simply giving.
I have it on the authority of at least 3 couples over 80 that one doesn’t want less of their spouse over the years.
Rather the opposite.
That giving in many ways, including sex, seems to be more generous and more satisfying for both.🙂

I really don’t have an issue with a wife deciding to um offer for however many days in a row. In an already healthy marriage, I can’t imagine it’d be anything harmful.

My concern is that I can see some couples thinking after that time of** having all that commitment to making their sex life better and it still doesn’t spark - that it must be because they are hopeless or their marriage is in trouble.**
