Pastor John Hagee tells God: Punish America for same-sex marriage or ‘apologize to Sodom and Gomorrah’

Every translation carries some sort of interpretation, even if minor. A good example is, in many Protestant translations, the Greek/Hebrew/Aramaic word for tradition is carried negatively while the word ‘teaching’ is used positively. The translator is imposing their bias. The actual root word for tradition, teaching is the same. No matter how you spin it, you aren’t ‘just saying what the Bible says’ or ‘just what God says’, that’s your superimposition. We Catholics believe just as strongly that our Church teaches ‘what God says’ and ‘what the Bible says.’ We have 2thousand years, the Apostles, their successors, and Apostolic ‘teaching’ to back our understanding back to Jesus’ word to back us up- what do you have, other than your opinion?
 
Is issuing edicts to God, putting yourself on the same level as God? A man would have to be awfully sure and proud of himself to chastise God, and that is what this statement sounds like, a chastisement. Just saying. Am I wrong? I suppose it could have been a rhetorical statement.

Baha’is accept Jesus Christ as one in a long line of prophets. They do not believe in him in the Biblical sense, meaning believing that He is the Word of God made flesh, and that his death on the cross is the final sacrifice for the sins of humanity.

(Full disclosure: I was a Baha’i for three years, and it was precisely because that faith has no answer for the problem of sin that I left it and returned to Christianity. And that’s all I have to say about this off-topic bunny trail.)

We could discuss the issue of sin I suppose…but this may not be the proper thread… Anyway you may recall the following:

My only purpose in posting was to correct the impression that Baha’is don’t acknowledge Jesus.

A co-worker of mine is very good friends with John Hagee.

From what he tells me, Hagee advises everyone to be on constant guard from the Devil and demons and such. So my co-worker tells me his kid wants to be some sort of lamb for Halloween (She’s like an 8 year old girl) last year. However this idea had to be scrapped because she found a lamb mask, and her father felt BASED ON JOHN HAGEE’S sermons and friendship, that this innocent lamb mask was “too close to a goat mask!”.

When I pressed him on who cares if it looks like a goat, he tells me that the goat can be construed as Baphomet and that her lamb outfit would be too Satanic for Halloween :eek:

Sometimes I wonder if these things are done on purpose. Surely an artist can tell the difference between a lamb and a goat !! One can hardly buy a children’s book that doesn’t have ugly pictures in it. Thank God I kept my “old” children’s books and old good school books to read to my kids and grandkids. God Bless, Memaw

Can the artist tell the difference? Sure.

What he was saying that a lamb resembles a goat…the goat resembles Baphomet…Baphomet is Satan. Therefore it’s all Satanic.

We are really blessed in this county. The Baptist Bible Belt has a Catholic buckle – a thriving parish, four monasteries (one of which, however, is a group of “progressive” nuns), and two nationally known shrines.
