While I pray for this pastor, I wonder what type of penance would he will be doing? I mean I would assume hes heartily sorry for this sins for having offended God so how do megachurch pastors go about it?

A public confession in his church and repentance.

I don’t think they’re here.

It’s a delecate balance between family and God’s work (if there’s a difference) sometimes. Woe to him who can figure it out.
Of course not! Because they have no justification for those who are married and at times do worse things than celibate clergy.

why say anything, it opened a door to bring up “celibate clergy”. I’m Catholic so don’t jump on me, but I do believe that Priests take a vow for the Priesthood, and commit themselves to a celibate unmarried life, but now we also have married Priest too, don’t we,

just saw the Journey Home the other night, a married man with children just became a Catholic Priest (he was Baptist)

Now I don’t understand that, the CC seems to be making a lot of exceptions on married Priests.

When humans are involved anything can happen, even Priests are human beings.

This Pastor gave 30 years to his parish, and was honest and now wants to devote time to his family life, he is only human. He got out of balance somewhere.

I just want to add my prayers for this beleagered pastor, for his family, and for those he has ministered to for so long. It may be more of a case of one man being at one church for 3 decades that has contributed to his difficulities more than being a married man. One can get burned out or find oneself in a rut and so look for ways out of it that aren’t proper. At least he had the good sense to bow out to take care of these issues instead of running off into the blue with some woman and the church coffers.

Being a pastor is a huge responsibility for anyone who takes it on. Retirement sounds like a good solution for him at his age, if he were younger, maybe taking a sabbatical, getting things straightened out and a new challenge afterwards might have been good for him. In any case, I wish him, his family and friends all the best. 🙂
