Patron saint for converts

I will be received at the Easter vigil. I am interested in participating in what I’ve been told is an optional tradition – taking the name of a patron saint at my confirmation.

I’d like opinions about what saints would be especially appropriate for a convert to Catholicism from Protestantism (via Episcopal). I’'ve thought about John Henry Newman, but I think he is only a blessed, not a Saint yet. I’ve also considered Augustine, a convert whose writing I love, though not a convert from protestantism. For that matter, I’ve even thought about Monica, because she prayed for the conversion of her family and saw it happen, but I’m not sure its cool for a man to take the name of a female saint.

What do you think?

Saint Paul is the ultimate patron of converts. St. John the Baptist! St. Lucian. St. Hermengild of Seville. is a great example, especially if you are having trouble with your parents as a result of your conversion. St. Hermengild fought a war with his father because of his conversion and his father eventually tortured and killed him because Hermengild refused to take communion from an Arian bishop.
 
I believe you can still take the name of a Blessed person.
 
Another good one, especially coming from an offshoot of the Anglican Communion is St. Thomas More, who was beheaded by the King Henry VIII (who was a close personal friend of his) for refusing make the Oath of Supremacy, declaring the King of England as the Head of the English Church. Also the patron of lawyers and politicians.

I ask this as two who led me towards catholicism at different stages in the journey are Ignatius - of Antioch and Loyola. Can I get away with one name to represent two people?

I didn’t have the choice, but I would have done that. Thomas: The apostle who said: “Let us also go that we may die with him.” and “My Lord and my God!” Then you have Thomas a Becket, Thomas More (I was Anglican), Thomas Merton (not blessed or a Saint to our knowledge, but very influential to me), and last of all, a venerable old Monsignor who befriended me 25 years before and sowed the seeds of my conversion.

I know Luther was an Augustinian, but other than that, what is the connection? Augustine was long before the reformation.

I refer to Augustine as a convert, not a convert from protestantism. He was a convert from Manicheanism
 
I’m taking the name of St. Juan Diego. He was a convert from paganism. I wasn’t exactly a pagan, just a non-denominational Christian-in-name-only who worshiped the false triune god called “Me, Myself & I.”

I wanted two things in my Patron: An uncomplicated life and a simple devotion to Our Blessed Mother. I am a very complicated person who needs the example of a simple failth and the motherly attentions of Mary. I would like to be referred to at confirmation as “Juanito” as this how Mary addressed him. She called him “Juanito, Juan Dieguito “, “the most humble of my sons”, “my son the least”, “my little dear”. :love: To her he said: “I am a nobody, I am a small rope, a tiny ladder, the tail end, a leaf.”

Dear St. Juan Diego, pray for me that I may be as you were, a nobody, a small rope, a tiny ladder, the tail end, a leaf.🤓

I’m female but I took the name of St. Michael as my patron. He’s not failed me.

Your so lucky I wanted him (Juan Diego) as my patron saint as I am a male who love the Virgin Guadelupe but he was to be canonized a few months after the Vigil. Bad timing for me he is a fairly new saint. I took Saint Joseph but I honestly am not connected to him though he considered the second greatest saint besides Mary he is after all in the holy family. But I just like Juan Diego he’s sorta my honary patron saint. I guess it doesn’t matter much as Juan Diego was always a saint to begin with but it would have been nice to have him as my patron saint.
 
St Augustine is a very good choice because he is so scholarly, but I have a prefernce to St Micheal. He is the defender of Heaven and I haven’t failed with his intercession!
