I just ran across this site that is only a week old: patronsaintofmisfits.com/.

Does anyone know who is behind it and does the material look “safe”? It says it is open to everyone but looks to be written from a Catholic persective. The style of writing actually reminds me somewhat of Peter Kreeft.

I had a look and personally it is something I would steer clear of because:
  1. The person does not claim their faith clearly. If they were Catholic or identified themselves as Evangelical, Protestant etc. they would say so. They say they were saved (OSAS?) but we Catholics know we were saved, are saved and God-willing will continue to be saved.
  2. Why are they declaring themselves as the Patron Saint of misfits?
  3. One tiny quote from St Thérèse de Lisieux and a link to a secular site? But the site does not acknowledge her sainthood or expand on St Therese’s Little Way.
  4. One negative reference to church quote “I myself have been saved in ways I had not been able to receive on my own, or even in church”.
  5. No mention of sacraments.
  6. It is depressing in its negativity, focusing on weaknesses, with a few very short Biblical references.
  7. We are here offering a safe harbor for seekers and believers of all sorts.” But it is secret, there is no offering of authority, no doctrine.
That is just my reaction. CAF has taught me to question and find the source. I have questioned but cannot find the source and am very skeptical about someone claiming to be a living saint. Is the name of the site and mention of the little way, designed to entice Catholics away from the Church?

Thanks for the reply, Avila123. The fact they don’t explicitly identify themselves as Catholic is a red flag for me too, which I why I decided to solicit any information or opinions the CAF family might have. FWIW, I did see mention of sacraments somewhere on the site and it seems to try to give transcendent hope in Jesus despite the negativity, but I do agree with your observations.

O Wow. Imagine my surprise! I’m a longtime Forum member. Last year I started learning to create a website. THOUGHT I had it “Under Construction” while I learned. NOW I DO finally have it put together. Still learning, but getting lots of interest.
Just NOW noticed on here that people saw it LAST year and labeled it “suspicious” because not overtly Catholic! Let me please share the facts:

YES, I am Catholic! A convert for 12 years now. Was evangelical over 20 years. LOVE the Catholic church, but have a heart for people that have sort of “fallen between the cracks” in the religious world and never found a church home. Want to see them come to the LORD and let the Spirit guide them on their own journey as He did me on mine.

SO many wounded people out there! Victims of childhood abuse and adult traumas, in and out of “church.” Very confused about how a loving God could have let these things happen to them. And nowhere safe to go to ask the really hard questions. “Christian” sites so often devolve into flame wars between folks about “who’s RIGHT” instead of “who’s SAVED…”

My very favorite EWTN show is Marcus Grodi’s “Journey Home” and I think the CC does a better job than ANYONE of letting people HAVE their own “journey.” Mine was what it was…long, educational, painful. And no one could have ever hammered me into the CC or any OTHER particular place until I had my own relationship with the Lord and He became my teacher and guide. THEN I knew “Home” when I saw it 🙂

My ministry is to the many out there who have been lost somewhere on that road. Who have hard stories and maybe nowhere safe to tell them. And hard questions, maybe nowhere safe to ask them.

But yes, my HEART is for it to end in the Catholic “Home.” It’s just that I believe everyone has the right to their OWN journey. And I have felt all along that the CC believes that as well.

My website, Twitter, Facebook etc. are aimed at people who do not know where to BEGIN. I keep evangelical AND Catholic subscribers on ALL accounts. I defy anyone who visits my website to be able to tell WHICH “church” I am in. And for good reason imho.

As far as the TITLE, which might be what actually disturbed some … it comes mainly from my CATHOLIC belief that, even if I cannot BE saintly HERE in this fallen world, I can ASPIRE to be one when I am safe with the Lord! THEN I can help the people I have a heart for here. Not unlike Therese of Lisieux, spend my Heaven helping the misfits here in the fallen, broken world.

SO, if it offends anyone, it sure shouldn’t be CATHOLICS 🙂 I half EXPECTED it to offend some evangelicals 🙂 But my DESIRE is to leave THAT topic off the table until the lost have their OWN relationship with the Lord Jesus and can make their OWN journey Home.

My WEBSITE is: www.PatronSaintOfMisfits.com

Just so’s ya know!

DOn’t know if anybody will ever even READ this Reply to such an old THREAD, but thought I’d put it out there, just in case 🙂

God bless you all here on my favorite Forum 🙂

Dear Kathy,

Yes I read your reply, even after all this time. Thank you for explaining that it is a site to help souls with specific wounds, which wasn’t apparent back in May, as you say, the site was under construction.

The question about your site was asked on CAF, therefore, the reaction is probably not surprising but at least you have spotted it and have the opportunity to reply. The Thread will move up the list, so more people will see it and understand the delicate area you are working in.

I hope that God will bless you and your mission. :gopray:

Oh my gosh! I clicked on this thread because I love the title of the website. I’ll be checking it out! 👍

Kathy, I love your intentions and your purpose and think they are amazing. As I fell asleep last night, long story short, I was having some hardcore doubts and had a strong, clear voice that “Honey, you are home. [The last spiritual home I frequented] has a lot of broken, lost folks who are going to drag you down; be stronger before you visit them.”

I don’t know… This idea speaks to me on so many levels.

Blessings and success, friend. :hug3:

O WOW! Joy DOES come in the morning! 🙂 THANK YOU, Avila123 and DakiniArtist, for your beautiful responses. And for untying the last “knot” I have had before our Lord via the beautiful “Mary, Undoer of Knots” novena. Bless you, thank you, more than you know.

I am currently praying for a way to include Catholic type resources on my site without “tipping off” any hardcore evangelicals (you know what i’m talking about LOL). Maybe a “Resource” or “Media” page that includes links, videos, podcast from ALL persuasions. Any thoughts, prayers, suggestions in that regard gratefully accepted 🙂

This whole thing is new to me, I was only ever a writer, never a geek. And now I am old and this is all a new world. I am adding sold-out Christian YOUNG people when and where I can, to try to keep it “young.” Would love to have Catholic contributors or Editors or Admins there too if anyone is interested. Easy to add a “Page” 🙂

ANYWAY, you have both proven once again that I am indeed “Home” and, as I say on my website “safe, loved, not alone” 🙂

BLESS you for that!

Kathy

PS:

I do not know how to respond to “LTravis” who was on this thread last year. BUT, if he’s out there Lord, please tell him “THANK YOU” because the “sounds like Peter Kreeft” was easily the NICEST thing I EVER heard about my writing :-)))) LOL

Bless you too, LTRAVIS 🙂

Kathlyn, I am the one who started this thread. I am thrilled you stumbled on my post! I hope you didn’t feel insulted that I had suspician. As a Catholic myself, if I find something that looks really edifying, I make sure its true to my faith because that’s always number one. It seemed Catholic without overtly declaring it but I had to ask others since I don’t trust my command of the faith to make that call totally on my own.

I can share what led me to the site. I have a daughter who struggles to fit in, as I did growing up. She is very strong in her faith, though, so I thought it would be nice to find a patron saint of “misfits” for her. My search didn’t turn up any saints of note, but it did turn up your website, and I really liked what I read and thought it could be an encouragement for her, especially as she gets into those tough teen years.

Now that you mention your reasons behind how you present your material, I say don’t change a thing. Its perfect, even better than I realized when I first read it. Definitely keep the title too; its what drew me to the site in the first place. I will be sure to follow it and let others know. And thanks for sharing your gifts!

OOOoooo God IS so GOOD :-)))) THANK YOU LT !!! and BLESS you for taking the time to check in with your kind response. It’s always been people like you that KEEP me Catholic. Cannot say WHY but CAN say the Catholics I’ve become acquainted with are kinder than the evangelicals I used to be with. Love them all still, but so much more “one-upmanship” in that evangelical world that I just don’t see in my Catholic Home 🙂

And interesting that I’m home today with my teenage granddaughter thinking the same things you are…how to keep her strong in the faith in spite of the “misfitness” that is so hard in this ol’ world. whew. Hope it cheers YOURS up as much as MINE to think we are in such wonderful company, because Jesus really was a misfit too 🙂 Wow, all he wanted to do was LOVE them and they killed him over it. Good thing HE didn’t try to just “fit in” and did what He came to do anyway, huh?

I certainly did NOT think you were being unkind to ask about the site. I asked harder stuff than that early in my journey into the CC. and found it wonderful that there was a place with actual ANSWERS, huh?!

Thank you, bless you, and a special prayer for your daughter :-))

Thank you, and yes - God is very, very good! I think your message can appeal to anyone because, really, we are all misfits. This is not our true home and so none of us will fit perfectly in it. In fact, not only was Jesus himself a misfit, but he desired and prayed for us to be “misfits” too, by being in the world but not of the world. I also think that the more misfit one is, the less space there is in him for the world can occupy and more which God can fill with himself - and when he does fill it, it is stunningly beautiful.

Looking forward to reading more from your site!

Amen and amen 🙂 You GET it! THANK YOU. And don’t be surprised if you see your very words on my site soon lol. That would be the very bedrock of it all, wouldn’t it? To see ourselves as misfits in this ol’ fallen world as a GOOD thing…a HARD journey sometimes, but a holier one.

THANK YOU AGAIN LT! God bless you this very day 🙂
