Patronage of Saints

Greetings!

I understand the role of Saints in praying for us and interceding for us before God.
What I don’t understand is the Patronage of each Saint.
What is the Biblical or Patristic Bases for the Patronage of each Saint?
Can’t every Saint pray for in relation to anything we ask for?
Doesn’t Patronage sound a bit superstitious?

We can ask any Saint for anything to be taken before God.

I guess it is for us to have them be patrons for different things.
