Paul and Peter

Here’s a probably simplistic half-answer:

They preached to whomever God told them to preach to. Whoever God told them to preach to or teach, they obediently preached to or taught.

Peter preached to Jews but also to gentiles - others will know more about that than me.

Paul preached to gentiles but also to Jews - eg Aquila (Acts 18) or in the synagogue at Beroea (acts 17), the Jews of Antioch (Acts 13) before preaching to the gentiles there, the Jews of Iconium (Acts 14) and the gentiles there, the synagogue of Ephesus (Acts 19) and so on until his preaching to the Roman Jews in the latter half of Acts 28.

So, in fact Peter continued preaching to the Jews. Paul also continued preaching to the Jews. He did not stop.

Some people say Peter was the apostle for the Jews and Paul the apostle for the gentiles. Personally I think that’s even more of an over-simplification than what I just typed.

I think you did just fine, asteroid.

Patti Ann, from where did you get the idea that Paul stopped teaching the Jews while Peter continued? It’s an interesting idea, and one that I hadn’t really heard expressed before.

As you see from asteroid, both preached to Jews and Gentiles, but Peter’s ministry tended to be more with the Jews and Paul with the Gentiles when one considers the *entire period * of the ministry.

In the event, it doesn’t really matter whether Peter or Paul did more or less teaching to any one group–what matters is that both spread the gospel. Praise God for that!
