is obeying the law sufficient to justify us before God?
No!, why?
No person is perfect, hence no person can boast to have perfectly obeyed the law of God, How then can an imperfect obedience be due to infinitely perfect God? Justice means to give what is due. In this case imperfect man cannot give perfect obedience hence man cannot give justice to God.
Let us say that man is perfect and he obeyed the law perfectly, is that sufficient before God? No! because man is finite, no matter how perfect is the obedience of man, his obedience would be finite since man is finite. As such, a finite obedience cannot be due to infinite God. There is no justice.
Hence Paul is right Law alone is not sufficient , grace from God is needed to give infinite value to our obedience to the Law.
Law therefore is not abolished but uphold because it is grace that will make obedience to the Law to have an infinite value.Hence If we have grace our good works and obedience have merit before God. (Be it noted by faith we acquire grace)
Those without grace cannot merit by thier good works and obedience.
hence Paul is right… that with grace the law is uphold.(see romans 3:30-31 God is one and he will put the jews right with himself on the basis of thier faith and will put the gentiles right through thier faith. Does this mean that by this faith we do away with the law?No , not at all instead we uphold the law"
