Hi,

Does anyone have any personal experience or information regarding the evangelization program called The Journey from the Pauline Evangelization Ministries? I really like the way it is set up as a 3 part series to 1) personally encounter Jesus, 2) what it means to belong to Jesus’ community His Church, and 3) how we become effective disciples. I’m trying to find an authentically Catholic evangelization program to implement at my parish and this looks to be it. I’m getting the starter kit to review the materials in detail, but it would be nice to hear if any others have experienced this program and what they thought of it.

After 2 weeks there are many views (190) but no replies as of yet. I’ll assume it is because no one has any experience with The Journey at their parish. And if that’s the case it is both sad and really troubling.

The sad part is that it looks to be a very compelling and Catholic evangelization program that no one seems to know about. I decided to pay for the Parish Preview Kit, which included a parish manual, leader guide, participant booklet, and a DVD of the videos used in the 6 sessions. The materials are very well done and the videos are very moving. I also spoke to the leader at a parish that has implemented The Journey and he spoke about the amazing transformation that has occurred at his parish. I’m excited to introduce this program to my parish council.

The troubling part is that if I were to have asked about anyone’s experience of the Protestant-based Alpha program I would have received numerous responses. I’ve made very public my distaste for that program on this forum and one argument used by pro-Alpha’ers was that there isn’t any good Catholic evangelization programs out there. After reviewing the materials of The Journey I can confidently say that that is pure hogwash.

I strongly encourage any of you that are considering an evangelization program at your parish (even more so if you’re considering Alpha) to take a long look at The Journey. Get the Parish Preview Kit (it’s $50) and review it for yourself. I think you’ll agree that it was money well spent. You can find the website here: pemdc.org/programs/thejourney/
