Whats the Catholic stance on the peace symbol? The CND one. Peace is good, but it was used by hippies a lot and they are usually anti-organized religion. So what’s up with that.
 
Variations of the cross were used by Nazi’s and the KKK
That doesn’t mean that there is a problem with the cross just the people who used it

I don’t know but I would imagine that similar logic applies to the peace symbol.

Peace is a good thing what others have done with the symbol shouldn’t affect that.

all Hippies are not bad people per se, the label included anti-establishment radicals, self-described Jesus freaks, and teenagers who wanted to dress differently to get their parents’ goat.

I once heard that Cjristians, since they have the cross, they do not need another sign, and so using the peace symbol was in a way “unchristian”. However, you could also see it this way: You are stressing ONE PARTICULAR ASPECT of your Christian message if you show somebody the peace symbol: That of peace. It is a part of it.

I kind of got in the habit of drawing a cross also if I draw a peace symbol somewhere…🙂

Just to clarify something, the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament symbol (“peace” symbol) is not, and never was a cross, or a variation thereof.

It is based on the semaphore flag symbols for “N” and “D” (Nuclear Disarmament) superimposed atop each other. Ergo:

Symbols and icons, like words are often disputed. There’s the problem that symbols often bring with them preconceptions like words. Some words are considered offensive for their preconceptions of the word. But in another language might be something perfectly acceptable. A Peace Symbol is what you make of it. The Cross or a Statue of OUR MOTHER MARY. But some people have preconceptions about the peace sign used in the 60s. They will make associations with it, which may not be intended by it. But peace is something we are all pursuing, and the greatest icon of that peace is the Cross . …

Can someone give me a real answer on what the peace sign symbole means in the Catholic church? I have a necklace that has the symbol and have been told it is against christianity and shows I support satan. REALLY??
 
from what i have learned, the “Peace” symbol was made by an anti-catholic communist who hated Jesus and all religion and believed killing them off was the answer…doesn’t sound very peaceful to me,

the peace sign is an upside down broken cross, and despite what people “adopt” it as, it’s origins are still evil,

as i’ve researched the “peace” symbol time and time again, it’s origins are always a controversy, and to be honest i’m not even 100% sure that the history i’ve read is true(meaning i’m rather open minded about it), but out of all the stories i’ve heard on it, this one seems to be the most believable, considering it was used even before 1958 for the “Direct Action Committee Against Nuclear War”, and was actually being used back in 1945, and unfortunately i just can’t remember the name of the guy who actually made the “peace” symbol…it’s on the tip of my tongue, but all i can think of is “George” something…

personally i would recommend not wearing the symbol, i personally believe it is bad, and most certainly not Christian, and in my opinion, if you want to wear a symbol of peace, where a cross. or “put on Christ”, what better show of peace can you give than to live in imitation of Jesus?
whether the symbol is good or bad, if we are going to give a message by something we wear, it should be a Catholic one,

but anyways, i guess that’s just my opinion, so that’s all, take care.
 
I was concerned about the peace sign. Is it good or bad, some say okay and others say it is the upside down cross and that is not good, which is it.

Symbols are in of themselves value-less. That is a common semiotic theory and is held by many reputable linguists and other communication scientists. A symbol simply points to a meaning. That doesn’t in any way guarantee that the direction it points to remains absolute. Factors such as societal views, cultural norms, and even just mere personal interpretation can change it.

With that said, I think you’ve got better things to worry about than what a symbol may mean because it will always mean differently to different people.

A good answer.

But, it would be useful to have more info about those origins and meanings.

I don’t know why still many young people today (where I live) like to wear that thing.
