I am about to start the Exodus 90 programme. Perhaps you have heard about it: a 90 day penance and asceticism programme the aim of which is purification and freeing from bad habits as well as regular prayer and Bible study, for the purpose of making us more open to God’s grace and free to do His will in fullness. The programme suggest people create small groups and meet during the week for support and accountability. My problem is that I have noone to do this with, no practicing Catholics around me. Just me. I feel a bit isolated generally in that respect and rely on the internet for companionship with other Catholics, both here and some FB groups. Exodus 90 asks us to give up social media and all surfing of the net that is not strictly necessary for work or education. This makes complete sense to me because I am guilty of being stuck to my iPad and constantly scrolling and clicking. I definitely want to change this and end my internet addiction.
So I am in a dilemma: ditch the internet Catholic community or not. I fear that I will feel dicouraged and isolated if I do. 90 days is a long time. On the other hand, I want to do this properly.
What is your advice? Thank you.
