Are there any Catholic rules or guidelines for personal sacrifices (giving up sweets, facebook, TV, etc) during lent? Or is all personal devotion?

I believe just abstaining from meat on Fridays in the United States.

I’m guessing you meant other than that.

I do wonder if the “all you can eat” fish fry is not counter productive, though.

Maybe that is a cultural thing in just my area?

What if they had fasted all day like they would Ash Wednesday/Good Friday? Besides, you could get a lot of fish and eat them as leftovers over the week.

Fasting to feast? Idk

Around here, you cant take all you can eat home.

I eat my largest meal at dinner when I fast. I don’t view it as fasting to feast.

All good! I dont want to criticize that at all.

Fasting is only required on Ash Wed, and Good Friday, I believe.

I personally feel that Friday’s abstinence of meat should mean a modest portion of whatever is substituted.

But I hear ya. It’s all personal, and I wouldnt want to judge anyone else!
