Hi,

My brother Committed suicide about 7 years ago. Seems like only yesterday. He was a deeply troubled young man, who was raised in a home barren of love, wisdom, and spiritual teaching. He was a nonbeliever. I myself am only in the process of converting to Catholicism, I am not yet baptized.

I would like to offer my own spiritual penance, for the redemption and salvation of my brother’s soul. I want To offer this as a regular part of my life going forward.

I’m not that familiar with theology but I hope that will help his poor lost soul. There’s nothing more I can do for him now, maybe this will help him.

I would appreciate thoughts, advice, or recommendations on penance I could make. Of course I have to be realistic about what I offer, given I have two young kids and am sole breadwinner for my family. I want to do what I can and trust God will see that and help my poor brother’s soul be saved.

Try picking up some Prayer practices and fasting. Those are two spiritual practices I take up when I need to center myself or have a specific prayer intention. Liturgy of the Hours or a daily rosary would be a good start and maybe 1 day a week where you fast either entirely or a specific food like meat.

Rosary, Stations, Adoration, Scripture reading, try to get the plenary indulgence for these activities and apply it to your brother.

Masses for his soul -Gregorian Masses are best if you can afford a set for him. CNEWA offers them with a low stipend, via online.

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

LORD Jesus please help your child reach your glorious presence.

You may ask a priest to celebrate a Mass (or a serie of Masses) for the repose of his soul.
