People just need a gd to explain their lives?

Does anyone know of good material concerning the need for religion. I’ve been to a physicist’s forum and they seem as deluded as any non-intellectual in matters of reasons for faith. People are superstitious, need a crutch, are non scientfic, born into it, the powers that be propagate it to control the masses are just a few things I’ve heard.
I would like a complete list of erroneous and real reasons folk gravitate to religion. Any good books, essays, etc.?

I think there are a few different reasons. For some people it’s seeking to get in to Heaven. Another reason is a realisation that “wow, I think this is right!”. That would be the case with, for instance, the aposltes, and is sort of what happened to me.

Some claim the Holocaust never happened either.

Science has its place and it will never be able to prove their is or isn’t a God.
