Genesis 4: 9-10.

9 Then the LORD said to Cain, “Where is Abel your brother?” He said, “I do not know; am I my brother’s keeper?”
10 And the LORD said, "What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood is crying to me from the ground.

Quote= OneNow1:Sounds like a Abel is petitioning God to me.
Our hope here is that abel was his brother’s keeper in heaven. Unlike Cain, who didn’t care.

Peace, OneNow1 :twocents:
Interesting; but what does that have to do with personal responsibility and relying on God and not man for our salvation? Cain slew Abel, God knew this as his spirit was now with God…I think God was trying to make a point with Cain, don’t ya think?

We, as (christians) humans, have a mission to “spread the Gospel” and do our best to “love one another as He first loved us”. We cannot get into whether or not someone in heaven will come down and ‘protect’ us, but God can! I believe some put too much faith in those who have gone on before us; but, the Holy Spirit intercedes for us, not some dead saint.

Romans 8:27

“27. and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.”

That’s the problem with most of this world today; “it’s not my fault-he did it!” Sounds like a bunch of 3 year olds explaining an accident. Too much touchy-feely-someone-else-is-to-blame, not enough reality and personal responsibility.

"Hebrews 7:25
  1. Therefore He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them." That’s about Jesus, not anyone else. 🤷

Hi Righteousone, have you considered defending the faith the way St. Francis did? Preach the Gospel, sometimes use words. I’ve recently considered this the best approach when someone is just shouting contradictory nonsense at you.

I have a friend who left the Church who, while not as bitter as the woman you described, seems to have a very bitter hangup with granting the Catholic Church much merit because she had a “bad experience.” It is very personal, and there is a lot of psychology involved. So if she continues to be irrational, you may to have to learn to not have the last word, appeal to Titus 3:10, and walk like St. Francis. 😃

God calls us to be His witnesses, not His debating team. The acrimony that sometimes arises during religious arguments is unseemly and it diminishes everyone involved. Frankly, it is childish.

You want to share the Gospel? Feed somebody. People will notice.

I think you are almost 100% correct. Some people have skill sets that are better suited to feeding the poor and caring for the sick and visiting the lonely. Sharing Jesus with casual associates is almost always best left alone.

I believe that a lot of Catholics get into trouble with Protestents because either they have not been trained/equiped to debate apologetics, don’t know enough about their own faith or just don’t have proper people skills to do it.

Before you start talking to anyone about your faith, always remember that God loves that person and cares for them and made them. Do everything with gentleness, kindness and compassion. We don’t know what someone is going through, they may just need a calm voice, a caring heart and a shoulder to cry on.

The Gospel of Christ is a very personal thing. If someone sees Christ in you, they will want what you have and then God will allow you to share your Catholitism.

Thank you Marco, but the arguement was about where the bible came from. She seems to think it dropped down from heaven. The thought of the CC compiling it is horrendous to her.

It is not horrendous to me, Righteousone, to believe that in your studies and during your conversion? you became a believer in what you believe. Your “friend” too, became a believer and is ensconced in her belief structure as well. I have a here a site you and she might consider when looking for further references in this study. Consider this: some who come to the forums do walk away with, as I do, a better understanding of where individuals get their beliefs. It either helps or hurts the reader, but it is the reader’s choice to look into it.

Thanks for the perspective and time. 👍

The bible comes from the Catholic church. The NT was compiled in 397 A.D. What is it you don’t understand?

Right on righteousness one.👍

And this: “We concede – as we must – that so much of what they [the Catholic Church] say is true: that the papacy has God’s word and the office of the apostles, and that we have received Holy Scriptures, Baptism, the Sacrament, and the pulpit from them. What would we know of these if it were not for them?” Sermon on the gospel of St. John, chaps. 14 - 16 (1537), in vol. 24 of LUTHER’S WORKS, St. Louis, Mo.: Concordia, 1961, 304

And this: “This one will not hear of Baptism, and that one denies the sacrament, another puts a world between this and the last day: some teach that Christ is not God, some say this, some say that: there are as many sects and creeds as there are heads. No yokel is so rude but when he has dreams and fancies, he thinks himself inspired by the Holy Ghost and must be a prophet” De Wette III, 61. quoted in O’Hare, THE FACTS ABOUT LUTHER, 208.

“Noblemen, townsmen, peasants, all classes understand the Evangelium better than I or St. Paul; they are now wise and think themselves more learned than all the ministers.” Walch XIV, 1360 quoted in O’Hare, Ibid, 209

Quote= OneNow1 Isn’t this exactly what is still going on today,
thousands of denoms and still counting and each with a litte different view of scripture.

Thats a lie, and you know why?

Because most of the bible is composed of the Tanakh. Which came from the Jews.

Yes, but the Catholic church put it ALL DOWN ON PAPER. The Roman Pontiff decided which books were to be put in and which were not.

Today I had a debate with a Protestant from a church called “The Bridge of Christ” or something like that. She said that I was crazy in telling her that her bible came from the Catholic church, that it was compiled by the Roman Pontiff in 397 A.D. at the Councl of Carthage.
Well, I never heard such hatred toward me with her name calling and saying that I was the one who was a kook for saying this. She went on and on, quoting Scripture, everything was the bible, bible, bible. I tried to tell her about the Catacombs with their early church writings on the wall from the saints, and about the Early Church Fathers. She simply called me a f------jerk and said satan was attacking me. Even tho I told her sola scripture was not biblical, she refused to think anything else. She was so angry that I couldn’t believe she could act as she did. I was calm and just told her historical facts, then she said “screw history”. What else can convince her that our church is the one and only church? I am xhausted from telling her the same old thing, you know, 2,000 years in existence, unbroken link…is there anything else I can do to basically shut her up and start thinking about it?
Please don’t say it’s hopeless, i will see her again. Thanks.
Actually, it is the New Testament, not the whole bible, the OT existed prior to when Christ established The Church. I have found that it’s better to say NT rathern than Bible.

It is not up to us to convince her, that is up to The Holy Spirit. Our job is just to give the Truth, not everyone is going to accept it.

Hey there, not sure whether this link will help you but it is worth to try to tell her what you are trying to share with her. Many afraid of the truth and the truth is hurt. Don’t worry about it. Pray for her. God bless you and continue to guide and keep you strong in defending what you believe in! Amen

The term, “BCC” came about, when?

Oh… yesterday?

There have been others, before and since Paul, who write of Christ with as much authority as he had…

Btw - was he present during Pentecost? Isn’t that amazing, that a Johnny-come-later is given more his due (by some) than the guys who were actually there…

I said **more **his due.
Most of those at Pentecost probably couldn’t write or found no need to do so at the time. Paul, on the other hand, loved to write letters to various christian communities throughout the empire. And he had his own pentecostal experience on the road to Damascus.

You are so welcome. I was so surprised to see that there are so many many Churches out there, for me being not from USA an eye opening for me, back in my home country people seldom talk about their faith. My faith is my faith and your faith is your faith kinda thing and so happy and what a joy to see Catholic Church remain strong. No matter what other people said, the CC will remain spotless, sinless till the end of time.

Yes peacelight, it is good to have a friend on CAF who is Catholic and who doesn’t debate his fellow Catholics as some do here. It’s really scary.

As is stated later in these posts, tis true, the New Testament did come from the Apostles doctrine (letters, epistles, books, Revelation), but they got it from God Almighty through the Holy Spirit and not a church here on this earth. The church is a body of believers, headed by one man…Christ Jesus our Lord. He established HIS church…“the churches of Christ salute you”, Romans 16:16.

Please read further…

“We have learned from none others the plan of our salvation, than from those through whom the Gospel has come down to us, which they did at one time proclaim in public, and, at a later period, by the will of God, handed down to us in the Scriptures, to be the ground and pillar of our faith. For it is unlawful to assert that they preached before they possessed “perfect knowledge,” as some do even venture to say, boasting themselves as improvers of the apostles.” (Irenaeus, Against Heresies, book 3, 1, 1 [180 AD]-Before 397 AD)" bible.ca/sola-scriptura-apostolic-fathers-irenaeus.htm 🤷 Was Irenaeus’ messages ever used as “tradition” in the Roman Catholic Church?
