Performing a Skit/ Copyright

I’m sure many of you have seen that Lifehouse Everything skit, if not, you can find it on GodTube.com. My question is, would it be okay to perform this at a youth rally if no money is obtained from it. I tried asking for permission but have not recieved a response yet.
 
The thing is, we’re using the work in its entirety, full skit and full song :confused:

honestly, although there are attorneys on this site, don’t rely on anyone’s legal advice except an attorney you’ve formaly retained for an opinion. possible you might find one who’ll give you an opinion at a reduced rate or even gratis. check the ads in your parish bulletin.

personally, I suspect you can get a good opinion on it with just a phone call.
 
yeah, your probably right. What I was really wondering about though were the possible moral drawbacks here. Would performing this without permssion be considered grave matter? I’m pretty sure it’s a flat out violation of copyright, but morally speaking I just don’t wanna go there anymore 🤷
 
If you don’t think it’s right, then don’t do it.

If it were not a big rally, but rather for a few friends at a party or whatever, doing the whole skit probably would still be fair use. When you introduce money or large numbers of people, that’s when things get iffy with performance.

If you were just doing the songs, though, you’d probably be covered by the venue. Auditoriums, stadiums, bars, etc. pay fees to certain organizations so that folks can play recorded music or perform any licensed music in their venue.
 
At this point I really don’t want to do it and since I’m the only one that’s seems to see copyright violation as a threat here, no one really seems to listen. The rally will be small, about 200 people or so and everything is free. The rally is suppose to be in a small park near our church.

I don’t know, I’m suppose to participate in the skit and if I drop, I’d feel as if I’m letting the event down, but I’d rather do that than let God down. I just don’t know how serious of a sin (or not sin) carrying out the skit might be so I’m a bit confused:confused:

don’t ask for legal advice on a religious forum. you haven’t contacted a lawyer yet, have you?
