Ruth Elizabeth " Bette " Davis (1908 – 1989) was an American actress of film, television and theater. With a career spanning 60 years and 100 acting credits, she is regarded as one of the greatest actresses in Hollywood history. She was noted for playing unsympathetic, sardonic characters, and was famous for her performances in a range of film genres, from contemporary crime melodramas to historical films, suspense horror, and occasional comedies, although her greater successes were in romantic dramas. A recipient of two Academy Awards, she was the first thespian to garner ten nominations.

"I am doomed to an eternity of compulsive work. No set goal achieved satisfies. Success only breeds a new goal. The golden apple devoured has seeds. It is endless."

"I never did pal around with actresses. Their talk usually bored me to tears."

"I sent my flowers across the hall to Mrs Nixon but her husband remembered what a Democrat I am and sent them back."

"I don’t think of myself as a character actress – that’s become a phrase which means you’ve had it."

"This has always been a motto of mine: Attempt the impossible in order to improve your work."

"I don’t take the movies seriously, and anyone who does is in for a headache."

"I’d luv to kiss ya, but I just washed my hair."

She is one of my favorite actresses. She stars in many of my favorite movies.
Has anyone seen her in “A Stolen Life”?

@CelticWarlord

You don’t care for her as an actress? I think, like Joan Crawford, you like her or you
don’t. They both portrayec strong women most of the time.

I don’t remember the name of the film, but there’s one where she’s married to Ernest Borgnine, and their daughter is Debbie Reynolds. They are s working class family living on s tenement apartment.

Debbie is getting married to someone a little bit more economically well off. Bette Davis doesn’t want to look poor next to her daughter’s new in-laws so she proceeds to plan a wedding that they can’t afford.

Bette Davis always struck me as a little cold, and not particularly happy.

I love her as an actress. I’ve just not seen much of her work. Yet.
I enjoy the black and white movies from the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s so that is why I am
familiar with her work

Of Human Bondage
Jezebel
Dark Victory
All This, and Heaven, Too
Now, Voyager
A Stolen Life
All About Eve
Whatever Happened to Baby Jane
Hush…Hush Sweet Charlotte

are highly recommended @CelticWarlord
