Patrick Moody Williams (1939 – 2018) was an Oscar-nominated American composer, arranger, and conductor who worked in many genres of music, as well as in film and television. Williams received a degree in history from Duke University, where he directed the student-run jazz big band, known as the Duke Ambassadors , from 1959 to 1961. Since music was always his first love, he went on to Columbia University to study music composition and conducting, where his passion became his profession. He quickly became busy as an arranger in New York; he moved to California in 1968 to pursue work in the movie and television field while continuing to write and arrange jazz albums.

Williams was also a leader in the music-education field for many years. He served as the Artistic Director of the Henry Mancini Institute — one of the nation’s premier training programs for young musicians seeking professional careers in music.

“We are changed by what we read. Close that book, and you are not the same person anymore. Because of what you just read, your worldview–your understanding, your compassion for others, your ability to engage intelligently with others–has expanded a little. Books help us grow."

“Just watch Snow White. Just visit Disneyland or Walt Disney World in Florida—he (Walt Disney) was laying the plans for the Florida park while he was on his death bed. People kept telling him his dreams were impossible. Walt knew better."

“I have learned,” Douglas explained, “first through my wife’s illness and then especially through the accident, not to confuse God with life. I’m no stoic. I am as upset about what happened to me as anyone could be. I feel free to curse the unfairness of life and to vent all my grief and anger. But I believe God feels the same way about the accident as I do—grieved and angry. I don’t blame Him for what happened… . We tend to think, ‘Life should be fair because God is fair.’ But God is not life. And if I confuse God with the physical reality of life—by expecting constant good health, for example—then I set myself up for a crashing disappointment.”

“Instead of getting mad or getting even, get creative.”

“Books are health food for your brain and dessert for your soul. Books are one of the few proven sources of mental exercise known to man. Reading is a workout for your mind. If your body needs thirty minutes of exercise a day, so does your thinker.”

“Don’t let reading make you arrogant. It can happen-believe me. Maybe you’ve even met a person or two like this, someone who thinks that being an English literature major or particularly well read puts them above the crowd. Take my advice: even if it’s true, don’t go there."

"I urge you to read, knowing the words you absorb will come out in your life in ways that inspire, uplift and encourage someone else. Life is meant to be passed on. Read with a servant’s heart.”

So true. I, as I am sure all that frequent @CelticWarlord’s threads, have often read books that have touched me in such profound ways, sometimes so much so, that I spend days afterward at the close of the book, with thoughts of what I just read on my mind. I am still living in the book, but going about in the real world. 😉

I am still living in the book, but going about in the real world.
I experience this as well. I wont ask if you ever feel as I’m going to write, but only how often, ie. coming to the end of the book with deep sadness that we are saying goodbye to the life and lives within it. A re-read is never quite the same again.

Oh my! So many times! And one author, I hated for her books to end because I would be “out of their lives” again! And now, she has died and no more books.
