Richard Red Skelton (1913 – 1997), professionally known as Red Skelton , was an American comedy entertainer. He was best known for his national radio and television shows between 1937 and 1971, especially as host of the television program The Red Skelton Show . He has stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his work in radio and television, and also appeared in burlesque, vaudeville, films, nightclubs, and casinos, all while he pursued an entirely separate career as an artist. Skelton used to tell the story of his having taken on the middle name Bernard when a teacher refused to believe that his middle name actually was “Red”.

I watched his show a lot when I was a little girl. He was a good person I felt and was funny.

He was also very funny. I didn’t know he pursued a separate career as an artist. He seemed to have a good heart, and seemed a little sad, at times.

I remember him well! I believe he painted clowns as part of his artistic endeavors. He always ended his show with, “ And may God bless”.
