Is telling perverted jokes a mortal sin???
Is laughing at them???
I am not looking for an excuse to tell these jokes but they have become a bad habit for me and even when I avoid them some of my friends tell them once in a while.

I would say it is not a mortal sin. Telling perverted jokes is a perverted and bad taste. You know sex jokes are easy jokes. They are stupid most of the time and deal with a few centimeters of the human body below the waist. Myself hate hearing them and I judge people telling them as stupid. Intelligent jokes that is what I like and dirty jokes are not intelligent at all.

It happens that once a while you hear an intelligent joke which uses sex but it is rare.

Once in a while, that’s Ok. But always … I usually say: the first dirty joke, it is fun, the second is not fun anymore, the third, everybody will call you a dirty joker.

It is up to you to judge the way others will judge you.

Avoid them (I mean the jokes) we are Christians and they are not really something we should be telling. (As to when others engage in them…perhaps seek to change the subject…“hey lets not get into that kind of jokes”…)

As to the sinfulness…such is difficult to gauge at times. Part of it has to do with what the effects internally are…what the danger to consent to lustful thoughts …sexual pleasure etc.

For some they may be very real near occasions of mortal sins…for others they may not have any such effect. But that does not mean they are are a good thing to engage in.

They can be a source of scandal. Especially for those who are young --they can be a grave danger.

It can be like I noted difficult to gauge.

Avoid them entirely.

See what Paul says in his letter to the Ephesians 5: 1-4

It’s not mortal, it’s probably venial, if anything.

Discretion at jokes is fine, but don’t take it too far though-many people sometimes forget that laughter and jokes are normal and fine in this life.

Got opposite answers going…as a reader, I’m Truly confused. Is it mortal?

I have a severe problem with these types of jokes, actually. I have a problem with saying homosexual things as a joke. Anyone with certain kinds of male friends will know what I’m talking about. So perhaps I’m biased :o, but I would tend to lend to jokes in bad taste being venial, though definitely still to be avoided. :yup:
