Was Peter married at the time of his ministry?
Yes, unless his wife had passed away…but either way there’s no problem with the current teaching on that because the first apostles had of course grown up under the Old Covenant traditions. Jesus and Paul are champions of the superior celibate Holy Order of the New Covenant.

I see no evidence in these passages that Peter’s wife was or was not alive at this point. Am I wrong?
1 Corinthians 9:5 : " Do we not have authority to lead about a wife, a sister, as also the rest of the Apostles, and the brethren of the Lord, AND KEPHAS ? "

It is apparent from this that Peter still had a living wife.

Are you saying that marriage is inferior?

Actually Paul and Jesus are when it comes to those who are in ministry:

1 Cor 7:38 “So that he who marries his betrothed does well; and he who refrains from marriage will do better.”

And again:
Mt. 19:12 “…there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the Kingdom of Heaven. He who is able to receive this, let him receive it.”

After all, not marrying is an imitation of the afterlife, which is superior to this life, so it would make sense that Jesus and Paul would tell those who can accept this to do it.

Being celibate is bad. I hate being single. I wish I had a wife.

That;s our Catholic tradition. But celibacy is better than something good, not better than something bad.

The single man can worship God with all his heart and all his strength and all his might. The married man must compromise in order to make provision for his family.

However priests and bishops, including Popes, may be married. The rule against it is purely disciplinary in nature, made for the good running of the Church, but expressing nothing inherent about the nature of priesthood.

I know and i firmly believe that peter was the first pope but i was hoping to find proof (bible) because everytime my mother in law comes she like to bring me down in this subject… any info would really help.

Thank you,

ROB
Try this

I was blown away when I realised how biblical Peter’s primacy is.

Being single is HORRIBLE!!! I HATE BEING SINGLE!!! ALL I THINK ABOUT IS WANTING TO BE MARRIED. I HATE BEING ALONE!!!

Well, like Jesus said, it is for those who can accept it. Perhaps you are not called to a celibate life. But it is certainly not “bad” as you said. You use very strong words against being single…I would be careful in subordinating God’s words vs. your own…and be sure to ask God to show you His will for you above all.

I also recommend you post a prayer request at the Prayer Intentions forum. I will pray for you as well!
