I’ve a gut feeling that I’m not listening well to my Lord’s call. You? Today, this tragic day, commemorates St. Peter’s grief over the hollowness of his self-proclaimed valor to give all for Jesus’ cause. In that fiery grief and the acknowledgement of his weakness, he became the humbled, yet tempered vessel for Jesus’ mission. Yet, today, when we contemplate with His disciples the awful, silent shock of the aftermath of grisly execution, we do not have the ultimate end to which this death would point. Lord, I thank you for Your three years of earthly ministry, seemingly ended nearly 2000 years ago. With you, St. Peter, I ask forgiveness for my desire for valor in Your service, and that I might learn the lessons of my small sufferings and weakness in support of Your mission. Lord, Your return we will celebrate soon, now virtually in this diseased world. Then comes the adhesive spirit of Your Love to fill disciples then and would-be disciples now. Please make of me that vessel You desire. May I hear the soft-breeze whisper of Your direction in the peace of heart that patient faith provides. St. Peter, pray for us all in this time of distanced fellowship, to follow you, following Him. Amen.
