Great thread!
Here’s a few things I’ve been taught:
Take time to stretch in the morning and whenever feeling stressed!
Be persistent…eventually you’ll get what you want, even if you have to work for it.
Sometimes all a friend needs is to look up and know you are there.
We could all use a little affection.
When I adopted my German Shepherd, the Humane Society gave me a little pamphlet with a bunch of comments written from pet’s point of view.
The one line that always gets me:
You have your job, your friends, and your activities. All I have is you.
I’ve lost pets: a few to natural causes, and I had to give up 2 dogs I put a lot of sweat, tears, and almost blood into to train. One had severe seperation anxiety and had he gone to another place he may have been put down. I did most of his behavioral rehab, and now he is a healty well adjusted dog–one could never ask for a more loyal friend! But I had to give them up to an ex, and the day I made that decision a part of me died.
Sometimes pets, like people, come into our lives to teach us something or to help us heal in some way. I can tell you that without the dogs I may not have ever realized how wrong my ex was for me. They remain with him in a good home, but I can tell you that letting go took a LOT out of me.
Now I have 2 other dogs, both rescues, both wonderful, and this time they’re mine alone (ie: God gave their full responsibility to me!)
I believe that all creatures belong to God, and we are only stewards. And the bond that we forge with our pets brings us that much closer to God and gives us insight into understanding his love.
