Hello.

My dogs have a small wardrobe of sweaters. Sometimes I make them wear matching sweaters when they go outside. They don’t like scarves, hats, or raincoats much, but one of my dogs enjoys wearing his sweater. Anyone else like to see their pets dressed, with understatement and according to the situation, of course? How about squirrels with motorcycle helmets? Backpacks? I do like the lighted collars.

I’m thinking about making them some t-shirts and light sweatshirts for spring.

😀 only a horse with a head stall if that counts .
If animals don’t mind wearing clothes I think they look cute.

Don’t think my cats would stand for it. I haven’t even had good luck getting cats to wear collars, let alone clothes. I know there are some breeds of dog that either enjoy wearing the clothes or in some cases have to wear them in order to stay warm when they go for walks or to potty in the yard.

I think the only time I dressed up a pet was when I was five or six and I shoved our poor Sheltie into a princess outfit (I say “poor” because he had no say in the matter. I now have an excellent picture of a very angry Shetland Sheepdog in a princess costume.) After that, most of my pets were fish. But I’m sure I would’ve heard more than a few kitty swear words if I did that to my cat!

I like it, as long as the pet is comfortable. If the animal is happy, I’m happy 🙂

I’ll dress mine in clothes if they need it (to prevent scratching or pulling fur out) or if it’s cold outside (dog has a Harley Davidson sweater and imitation leather jacket)…

I know pugs have a bad time in very cold weather and need a doggie sweater when they go out. I think English Bulldogs are the same too.

I had one dog, Luke, that I adopted at a rescue shelter. Formerly employed as a stock broker on Wall Street, he got into some hot water with the SEC on allegations involving insider trading. He was forced out of his job and ended up on the streets.

Yea, with cats I think you must start the training when they are kittens.

Frankly, in my opinion, pets should NOT be forced to wear clothes. Yes forced because they have no choice. It is completely unnecessary and unnatural. It is for the benefit of the owners and not the animals. It is ridiculous.

I had a mixed fox terrier who had very short hair. I live in New England. I had a sweater for her because on very bitter days her fur was just not enough. Heck, there were days when they advised people not to go out because of the windchill. Her entire underside was bare skin.

I would not put anything on my current dog. She does have a life jacket because she’s an idiot and while she likes to swim she’d drown herself given half a chance because she’ll swim out too far. She also has a hiking jacket but that’s so she can carry her own darn water and food. I also made her a lighted collar from one of those arm-flashlights so we can go hiking at nigh in my yard.

Most of the time, it’s not necessary.

However, some friends of mine had wippits (miniature greyhounds). They wore jackets in cold weather when they were out for prolonged periods of time as they were quite needed by the animals who have almost no body fat or hair to insulate themselves.

The dogs who run in the Iditarod have to wear boots or they’d have serious ice problems with their footpads.

My one dog snorts with pleasure when he gets his sweater on. He’s the 1st dog I’ve ever owned who does this. The other one, who hates the cold, hides under the chair when she thinks she’s going to have to wear her sweater, but she’s the one who also expects us to turn on the electric blanket for her, then she gets under the covers.

I think some dogs also are treated better when they are dressed. Put a cute t-shirt on a rather plain dog and suddenly he gets more positive affection.

But then, my other dog doesn’t care for her ballerina outfit for Halloween.

Oh, the troubles I face sometimes in life… 🙂
