I was simply stunned by the research Pew found:

Can 77% of Catholic Democrats really support legal abortion? Is this the same group of Catholics research recently found who don’t believe that the Eucharist is truly the body, blood, soul, and divinity of Our Lord?

In other words, are these nominal Catholics who attend Mass once a year and have no real knowledge of the faith? And what, what, what can we do to catechize them?

Personally I believe we need to start condemning immorality
No more “dialogue and acceptance”, but clear and concise teachings of right and wrong. Many Catholics don’t believe in the reality of hell anymore, and when we don’t fear hell we tend to run in our own directions. .

Yes, you are so right! We are too polite to speak the truth, too afraid to hurt anyone’s feelings when all that matters is whether or not we love God.

Question is “How can we possibly be loving God if we ignore almost everything he said?”

This is truly disheartening. Makes me wonder how many people will be in the pews once churches go back to normal and there are no longer dispensations.

So did they also provide the statistics on the number of practicing Catholics in their research?

I would think that would be a significant piece of information.

I think many people may identify Catholic but may not attend Mass at all.

^^ This. I know many people who will say they’re Catholic or “raised Catholic” but haven’t darkened a church door in decades except for the occasional family funeral or Christmas Mass.

Which would also explain why according to Pew, almost 40 percent of Republican Catholics think abortion should be legal. which seems inordinately high.

What I think is the Democrats are being careful not to allow many pro-lifers into the party, at least with a say because then, it would spread and they might have more control. I mean, they will let them in of course, but not with much say or (name removed by moderator)ut.

The parties don’t give you a questionnaire when you join the party. You can join with any beliefs you want.
You get a say when you vote in the primary.
However, the Dems don’t want to run any candidates for Congress or President who are openly pro-life.

Well a belief like that would place them outside the faith, so no they wouldn’t be Catholic. Yes, they are baptized Catholic, but not professing the true faith, which means they are not Catholic.

I know this sounds like a facetious answer, but I’ve always challenged myself with the thought that the true Catholics are the ones who are going to make it to heaven. I can call myself Catholic all I want, but if I don’t make it to heaven, it hardly seems that I had a valid Catholic faith. Or to to put it another way, would God call me Catholic? There was a banner that hung in my church growing up that said, “If you were on trial for being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you?” I can’t see where others are at using this measure, but I can at least measure myself against it.

When “Catholics” knowingly reject Church teaching, they are not Catholic. There is no such thing as choosing certain things to believe in Catholicism and rejecting others. These folks are not Catholics, they are what we call Protestants, regardless if they show up to mass every week.

Wouldn’t it sound funny to God to have a mere human stand in front of him and tell him to his face what he gets right and what he gets wrong? Yet we do that…

It is sad. I think too many Catholics just do not understand Catholicism. It is the hardest religion to follow. We are all sinners and need God’s grace, but we cannot reject His truth.

Hardly surprising considering the Democratic Party Platform for 2020 (page 42) supports legalized abortion. I 100% expect every single Democrat to agree with the stated platform of their chosen party. Of course, I also expect every single Catholic to agree with the anti-abortion stance of their Church too. It must be awkward for one’s chosen political party platform and their religious faith to be diametrically opposed in critical areas. https://www.demconvention.com/wp-co...emocratic-Party-Platform-For-Distribution.pdf
