Pew Study: Choosing a New Church or House of Worship

The homily is not the focus of the Mass. The Mass is a re-presentation of Christ’s salvific sacrifice on Calvary. Priests have a unique role in this re-presentation. That is far more real than any words the priest can add.

That being said, we all have a part in the Mass, including the priest. So it is good to do it well and give glory to God and instruction to the faithful.

I agree. Protestants focus on a sermon while we focus on the Eucharist

My experience, varying many Catholic churches as an outsider: no one talks to you. They usually get freaked if you talk to them. If you ask questions about thier faith, they deflect to someone else and some time a weeks or months away. A lot of people don’t even stay till the end of Mass. They seem very much in a hurry-get-it-done-I’m-done mindset. Doesn’t feel very welcoming or family like at all.

Some truth here but then I value before Mass the silence and privacy, Would hate a “greeter” and would find it an intrusion. I am there for Mass not a social visit…

True too re folk leaving immediately after communion; some are shift workers or need to get back to family/ I remember one road worker in full orange kit used to be at the back at 8 am then scoot quietly out I have occasionally done that myself when en route to a craft fair or when not feeling well.

Family can do these things. In our Father’s House.

After mass I sometimes feel sad when all disappear, but sometimes meet folk, I think serving tea and coffee etc would help . And yes when I am in the cathedral at non mass times i chat with tourists, and always answer questions.
