Hi garn9173,

Yes, it is really sad. I was over at YouTube, listening to some of their music. I have some of it going through my head right now. My Dad was a huge fan of theirs. They have fans of all generations.

Heard the news early Saturday morning. And I cried.
Oh, how I loved him. Since 1967. (I was a little past their zenith.)
Been to several post reunion concerts. At one, where, where most were about 10-15 years older than me (and it was a smaller venue, about 500 people), Don poked Phil and then they both singled me out as the only one dancing just a few feet from the stage; both gave a signal of “you go, girl!” How cool was THAT!!

But then I moved to southern CA. As a joke, I had two t-shirts made. Front and back, they read,

“I LOVE PHIL EVERLY!!”
It was a joke.

One day, my then husband and I went to do laundry and have sushi for dinner. As soon as we pulled into the parking lot, I yelled, “It’s him!! It’s him!!”
Somehow, I instinctively knew it was him, except I really do know a lot about him, including his gait. It was him, pacing just outside the sushi place, smoking a butt. We parked and my husband said, “You can’t NOT meet him. C’mon.” My knees were chattering. Phil headed for his car as my husband approached him.
“Excuse me Mr. Everly.” He paused. “My wife is a huge fan. She would just like to shake your hand.”
Phil Everly, my Elvis, took my hand with both of his, and said, " How sweet. We really do appreciate our fans.Thank you." I was so starstruck - and it takes A LOT to get me starstruck - I just said “thank you” as my knees were wobbling. He has a gorgeous smile. I was also salivating over his amazingly beautiful car.
We then went in for dinner. As we came out, he was driving towards the restaurant, and someone got into the car with him. I heard him firmly but nicely say, “Not in my car you
don’t!” ( I am guessing his guest wanted to dig into the take out.)
He passed us and smiled his killer smile and waved. Oh, my.

It began as a joke and it ended with me meeting my rock idol.
In his gorgeous 1960 black and white Austin-Healey. I don’t remember how I learned this, but I believe it was a gift for his 60th birthday.
And to the little girl who fell in love with him, he was still gorgeous. Actually, he was still gorgeous to the woman, too. 😃

I am truly saddened.

But Heaven is singing more sweetly.
I thank God for the legacy that Don and their kids will hopefully preserve meticulously and respectfully. Without the Everly Brothers, we would not have the likes of Simon and Garfunkle, and all the close hamony duos that have arrived since.
~
May Phil Everly now gaze upon You, Lord, face to face, and taste the blessedness of perfect rest.
Let his heart and soul now sing out in joy to You, Lord, the living God, with Whom he now perfectly lives. This I ask in Jesus’ name. Amen

That is a lovely post, and a fitting tribute to a true icon of American music. To this day, Let It Be Me can move me like few songs can; what ache, what lyrics, what harmony and sweetness. One of the best lines to open a song I have ever heard. You know the words … “I bless the day I found you …” Such a touching song by some of the very best ever in music. May the LORD bless him and keep him in His arms.

I loved the Everly Brothers from 1958 as a 13 year old. Phil was always my favorite, I bought all their albums and singles. I love ‘crying in the rain’ and ‘love hurts’ - so beautiful. As an adult I saw them in Central Park and was in the front row. Chuck Berry was on the same night. I felt so bad that he passed away and will never forget the joy the Everly Brothers have given me as a youngster. God Bless him and his family.

I knew the Everlys through my folks and have come to appreciate them more and more as the years go by. Lovely post marypar and I can imagine you are one of many who feel that way. Crying In The Rain is, along with Let It Be Me and Cathy’s Clown, one of my three favorites by them.
