Thank you Hesychios, The theme at the moment seems to be a bit off as the subscribe button is at the BOTTOM of the page and a little less obvious than it should be so I might change that. The idea for the theme was to keep it simple and plain, so that people are not distracted by pictures and links and so on and just are drawn to the texts themselves.

God bless

Thank you for the Philokalia blog address. I put it in my favorites and will be checking it out.

Yay! Some else sees the wisdom in this book!! I been recommending this to my friends for years. There some things I do wonder about in it however… That aside it certainly helped me a lot.

I have ordered volume 4 today. I am finding it difficult to find vol’s II and III though and of course there is a Vol 5 but its not in English.

I have the four volumes (well, not now - I think they are in storage), it took a while to secure them all. It was from reading the Philokalia that I chose my username.

No,I don`t have a copy and yes, I will for sure be visiting your blog! Thanks for sharing this infor with us.👍

Thank you Kitkatty. Hopefully you’ll stay with the blog and God willing I will also and wont fall into sloth. So because of the lengthy discourse on each vice this is why I give myself a week. So I dont end up suffering from ‘‘temptations of the apostolic heart’’ in which I burn myself out trying to do it all at once and then get fed up and be too tired to do any of it. 😃

Say a prayer for myself, the blog and it’s success.

Thanks, sounds pretty interesting, I’ll be sure to check it out 🙂

This is great! I only have a beginner’s introduction to the Philokalia, and shamefully have not deeply studied it. 😦

Thanks guys. I’m glad it will be of aid to you and me also in our prayerful growth.

I hope that as well as study it we will put much of it into practice. Lord knows I fail at every turn and feel like somewhat of a hypocrite for putting it up, but spiritual warfare is a struggle indeed. This book does help us through that struggle.

I’ve also managed to get philokalia volumes II - IV as well and have ordered them yipee.

God bless
Stephen

I’ve just recently started delving into this work, and I’m excited to find someone else interested in it! I have Volumes II-IV in English, and if it weren’t for a mix-up with an on-line bookseller, I’d have Volume I too: I should get it soon enough. (By the way, for anyone looking for the volumes, Half.com seems to have the best prices, if you don’t mind used books.)

I’ve recently started a blog about various aspects of the spiritual life and theology, often drawing from a variety of texts (thesaurostesekklesias.blogspot.com/) I have a post dealing with one short selection from the Philokalia (Theophanis the Monk’s “The Ladder of Divine Graces”, from Volume III) here, and I’m hoping to have one on St. Gregory Palamas’ discussion of the commandment against graven images (from “A New Testament Decalogue” in Volume IV) written soon.

Sorry for shameless self-promotion, but it’s a new blog, so I’m still looking for readers.

Anyway, I’ll definitely look into your blog, Stephen. I also just can’t wait to dive more deeply into the Philokalia: I’m especially interested in the concept of hesychasm, which I’ve heard about only indirectly, like a whisper: I can’t wait to read some writings about what it’s truly about.

God bless!

Thank you wolfsbane. Your site is very interesting. I have never had the pleasure of reading excerpts from the rest of the volumes of Philokalia as I only have volume I. So reading your site was enjoyable.

Volume I ( I’m told ) is the easiest to find and purchase opposed to the other volumes.

There is also a philokalia devoted to ‘‘Prayer on the heart’’ its the most expensive.

I am intrigued, especially since I’ve heard Cassian referred to as a link between Eastern and Western spirituality. Personally I own the four volumes of the Philokalia currently translated into English, and I anxiously await the fifth volume. Hopefully I will have read the other four volumes by the time the fifth comes out. I’m currently at the very end of the second volume, but will probably take a bit of a reprise in order to read about marriage and family issues. It’s good to know what the Fathers (Eastern and/or Western) have to say, and then to look for ways to apply their teachings in married life.

I look forward to hearing what you have to say.
