Do you have any books on philosophy and theology based on the teaching of St. Thomas Aquinas that you would recommend - for beginner like me?

Thanks!

I think these are a great start:

• H. D. Gardeil, O.P. Introduction to the Philosophy of St. Thomas. Vol. 2: Cosmology.
• H. D. Gardeil, O.P. Introduction to the Philosophy of St. Thomas. Vol. 3: Psychology.
• H. D. Gardeil, O.P. Introduction to the Philosophy of St. Thomas. Vol. 4: Metaphysics.

You may order them in PDF format for 10 bucks each from this link:

Or buy them in book format if you want.

Hope that helps!

Thank you, Asimis! That gives me a very good start. I probably get the books.

Granted that St. Thomas’s direct writings aren’t the easiest thing for many people, but I would recommend starting with some of the questions from St. Thomas’s Summa Theologica (found on www.newadvent.org)). They are very short, and Thomas, though his vocabulary might be difficult in places, progresses in a strict logical order that makes him easy to follow.

The other thing is that you can try to read a question from the Summa, and if it isn’t making sense, bring it to this forum and we can all discuss it!

*Knowing the Love of Christ *by Matthew Levering and Michael Dauphinais. Then you can move on to *The Theology of Thomas Aquinas *by Brian Davies. Or just start reading the Summa!

Aquinas the Giant can’t really be digested by a beginner, IMO. It’s best to read secondary sources about him and his great work, first, and at length. I’ve studied his story and the fundaments of his theology all my life, and have yet to read *Summa Theologica *from cover to cover. That seems almost impossible for the average guy.:o
