This report just in: 1,000 people attended the first Tridentine Mass with Spanish Homily in Phoenix, Arizona this past weekend.
I understand the significance of this - God bless Bishop OlmsteadThis report just in: 1,000 people attended the first Tridentine Mass with Spanish Homily in Phoenix, Arizona this past weekend.
Apparently the mass was at 7:30am which makes the numbers even more impressive. This report just in: 1,000 people attended the first Tridentine Mass with Spanish Homily in Phoenix, Arizona this past weekend.
Only vernacular for those who speak spanish.Excellent !!! A universal mass with vernacular readings and homilies. What a concept !! THANK YOU POPE ST. PIUS V !!!
I truly feel sorry for those who are so bitter and hate the Traditional Church and Traditional Mass so much that they invent statements like the one above to justify their hatred.Regardless of what your opinion and what the Pope’s opinion is, if they ever went back to the “traditional Latin Mass” you would see Mass attendance drop significantly which in turn means less money for the Church and more Church’s closing. It is true that mass attendance is already on the decline but going back to the priest facing away from the people would not help things. All you have to do is look at attendence of the Latin Mass’s they currently have. They are hardly any people that show up now.
And you take the notion that the original writer hated the Traditional Church (really, there’s not a Traditional Church, there’s just the Church) and the Traditional Mass from where precisely in the passage you quoted? Phoenix is a large diocese. One thousand people isn’t a huge chunk of it’s communicants. That said, one thousand should certainly be able to support a weekly (or even more frequent) Mass in Latin. I echo the commendations to the Bishop, who seems to be working hard to shepherd his people, and congratulate the people who treasure the old Mass and now have, I hope, what HHJPII called a “generous application” of it.I truly feel sorry for those who are so bitter and hate the Traditional Church and Traditional Mass so much that they invent statements like the one above to justify their hatred.
Oh well, I guess we will just have to add Phoenix to the list of places where the faithful “hardly show up” at the Traditional Mass
I live in Phoenix and I can guarantee that the faithful DO show up for the Traditional Mass! Every week about 300 of us show up for the 1:00 pm Mass at St. Thomas the Apostle. We have now been granted mission status with the name of Mater Misericordiae Latin Mass Community. Our Pastor is Fr. Alonzo Saenz (a wonderful, holy priest who,by the way taught himself how to say the Tridentine Mass), who is also Pastor of St. Augustine’s where he now says the Tridentine Mass at his home parish every Sunday at 7:30 am. Also every weekday at 6:30 am. So we are growing!!I truly feel sorry for those who are so bitter and hate the Traditional Church and Traditional Mass so much that they invent statements like the one above to justify their hatred.

Wow this is exciting, but could be much more historic than what you think. Are you sure this isn’t the first Tridentine Mass with a homily in Spanish in the United States since 1970 ???This report just in: 1,000 people attended the first Tridentine Mass with Spanish Homily in Phoenix, Arizona this past weekend.
Might be a possibility with your new bishopI would actually love to see something like this in San Antonio. This sounds absolutley marvelous.
We now have an indult. I would absolutely love to see an actual parish. I do not believe anybody has approached our new Bishop about this yet.Might be a possibility with your new bishop
