Jesus’ resurrected body went up into heaven with him. Same with Mary’s body. So is heaven a physical place like earth? If so, then what will our souls do there before the judgement? If haeven is the place we’ll be walking around in the future with physical resurrected bodies, then what good will it be to go there with just a soul in the meantime?

The bodies of Jesus and Mary are not merely resurrected, they are glorified. This means their physical nature is no longer subject to natural forces. For them there’s no gravity or spacial reality–they can come and go through time and space as they please. The souls of the dead are not glorified–not yet. They are “at rest” in the Lord until the Resurrection of the Dead. When that happens their bodies will be like Jesus and Mary’s bodies. They will be completely reintegrated and be glorified. What life will be like then we do not know, but no doubt it will be more wonderful than we can possibly know, trapped as we now are within our limited understanding.

The earth will be renewed and perfected at the end of times. It will be back to its glory in the days of the Garden of Eve. That is where those who will be resurrected will live for all eternity. And Christ and Mary will be there with us in physical form as well.

Not to quibble about what we can’t yet perceive but scripture says it will be better than the garden of Eden:

Rev 21, 22 says a new heaven and a new earth; God will be among us (not just sometimes like with Adam); Glory of God illuminates the new Jerusalem with the Lamb of God; not to mention the purity of the New Jerusalem.

Eternity is not time.

We have time now because we have bodies made from entropic matter, and time is the measurement of the deterioration of that matter. There is no time in Heaven, and so there is no “sleeping” (which you need a BODY for anyhow), nor waiting to be alive again.

When you leave human life, you leave time, and enter Eternity. And at the entrance to Eternity, you receive your renewed body, pneumatikon soma. Which will be as awesome as our LORD’s (male) or the BVM’s (female).

Hebrews 9:27 indicates that we go straight to judgement after death. So, it is possible when you die that you go to the end of time to the Ressurrection and Judgement. This is formally known as the eternalist viewpoint. C. S. Lewis wrote about it and refered to some church fathers who taught something like it. The way Lewis put it, that God sees all time at once like a human looking at a sheet of paper with a line on it. That line represents all of time. I think no one denies that we step into eternity when we die, and as far as I can tell there is no time or sequence of events as we know it on earth. I have read that one can not even count to ten in heaven.

This seems like the most logical answer to me. But other posters seem to contradict it. Is this an area that is a mystery and we can speculate, or is this for sure?

Building on this idea, it seems logical to me that the renewed perfect heaven and earth exist in parallel with this one, and Jesus and Mary are there right now.

It is a mystery, theologically; but one that has been well-stated by the Church. It is for sure.

“Parallel” sounds about right, if by that is meant outside the time line we know, as Eternity is.

Possessors of a human body (such as Enoch & Elijah) or the pneumatikon soma (such as our LORD, the BVM, and you and me once we are reassembled and awakened in Eternity) need the New Heaven and Earth to “be” and move around in. Our LORD’s ascension was not space travel, but a crossing to eternity.

One could say that Resurrectional human life is the original “parallel universe.” And you’ll have new feet to walk around in it:):)🙂

God Bless and ICXC NIKA!
