Greetings,

I had an opportunity to go to Europe for work. I got 2 free days where I went site-seeing.

Several friends have expressed interest in seeing my pictures. What photo-sharing sites would you recommend? Are there any where I could let only those I choose to see the pictures?

Thanks

Some years ago now I used Snapfish and just emailed people who I wanted to see the pics my log in info. I would see if Flikr has some kind of “friends only” setting…there is also Photobucket, but I have not used either.

My wife always uses Shutterfly. Shutterfly (and Snapfish) are primarily photo product-selling places, not social media picture sharing sites (like Flickr). But you can upload pictures, create an album, and then send it to whoever you want. The album isn’t public. The only people who could view the pictures are those you send the email to.

Also, I’m not sure about Snapfish, but I know with Shutterfly people no longer need to create an account just to view the pictures. Anyone you send the email to can view the pictures without having to first create their own Shutterfly account.

If you have a Google account, you might also consider using Google Plus; it gives you a convenient way to restrict exactly who can view your photos (your circles). By restricting access to people in specific circles, it allows you to fine-tune who, exactly, can access your photos, unlike some of the other photo sharing sites, or Facebook.

Google Plus is very good.
If you obtain a Picasa account then you can get unlimited picture and video storage when paired with your Google Plus account.

Uploaded pictures can be resized if necessary and videos less than 15 minutes long do not count towards your storage limit.

I am using an old digital SLR which take good pictures or around 8MP. They do not count towards any storage as they are under 2048*2048 pixels in size.

Lastly the Picasa program has a scarily good face recognition software. Once you tag your friends faces it very quickly tags them in other pictures they are in. This is purely for organisation so that you can find people quickly.

Primarily I upload my photos on Photobucket, but Facebook is also a good place to upload them and let your friends see them.

Flickr is free (with some limitation) and is a good interface. Picassa is another free service.

Peace
