Piece entitled "The death of Hollywood's middle class"

It was an interesting article.
I had a hard time getting past the boo hooing about $200,000 plus being middle class, but…

In a sense, there’s nothing new here. Hollywood has always been cutthroat. There has always been more talent than available jobs. There’s a reason why parents try to steer their children away from going for theater/film/writing degrees.
The business is extremely feast-or-famine.
How many times have you rewatched an older show and though “that actor was really talented, why haven’t they done anything since?”
Studios and networks (like all other businesses) have always found ways to keep money in their own pocket and not share with the underlings.

But seriously, what possessed that writer in the beginning of the article to leave a secure job without another one safely lined up?
That’s a bad choice in any industry.
