I’m planning a pilgrimage to the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Hanceville, Alabama, and possibly to the studios of EWTN. I’m not sure exactly when I’m going, but I’m hoping for sometime in middle or late November.

I was wondering if anybody had made a pilgrimage to the shrine and EWTN and, if so, what was it like? Do you have any suggestions for me? Any recommendations for accomodations?

So, if anyone has any thoughts or ideas, or would care to share their experience, that’d be great. Thanks.

My dh and I and our daughter were planning to leave tomorrow for Hanceville, but I am sick and don’t know if we will be leaving tomorrow. I looked up the lodging into on the EWTN web site.

We did go there once before and liked it. We visited the Shrine and EWTN studios. My husband use to be in the monastery there and wanted to visit the men he was roomates with and who are not priest. The priest and brothers were very friendly and offered our daughter a popsicle and gave her a beautiful orange handmade rosary, that the priest blessed. She was happy. She was 3 years old at the time. She is now 7. Now is at the age where she wonders if all we will do is pray.😛 I was looking forward to going, so it all depends if I wake up better tomorrow. Our daughter is off from school until Tuesday, so it was a perfect time to go. Oh well, maybe it was not meant to be yet.

I do remember seeing the Shrine for he first time and having thinking that it was so big. We did not get to see the gift shop, for we got there when they closed and moved on to the next state for we were on our way to Michigan.

We live near the shrine–if you want to stay near it, there are plenty of motel rooms in Cullman, mostly right on the interstate. If you want to stay closer to EWTN, I think I would suggest looking for motel rooms in Irondale itself; there are several large ones right off I-20. The second Talledega race has just been run, so you won’t have any problem with motels filling up from that 😛 If you’re planning it for T’giving weekend, I don’t know how that might affect vacancies.

Hope this helps.

I drive by EWTN daily. I also drive by a Comfort Inn near I-20 that looks nice. If you want me to give you info on that motel let me know.
