Here’s a recent argument I’ve seen sprout up:
That Planned Parenthood provides needed services other than abortion. Usually numbers are brought out and discussed - the idea being that if we defund Planned Parenthood then other women will suffer.
This argument provides good emotional cover for the wrongs that are committed by Planned Parenthood - but it’s not logical, or at least, I don’t think so based on PP’s behavior.
PP must be aware that abortion services are controversial. And as providing non-controversial general reproductive care to women is good, it would be logical to spin off their abortion services into a separate company in order to increase funding, donations, and good will. Thereby increasing care.
That they don’t follow this logic should tell us that they view themselves as an abortion provider first and foremost, with other services as being ancillary.
