I can’t attest to the other boards because I haven’t used them much, but the Prayer Intentions board is a force for good! Something that’s certainly good to exist, and the best forum for prayer requests I myself have come across.

Please keep the Prayer Intentions board. The Church is better off with it, as I am and the others who use it and those prayed for.

I don’t believe it is possible for the CAF forums to shut down in general, while retaining one thread category in particular. And it seems definitive that CAF will indeed close down.

I recommend you investigate one of the new forums many people are migrating to, to see whether they will have Prayer Intentions threads there, too.

Can I ask why that is? Also, maybe there are a few other thread categories could stay too.

It seems to me that Catholic Answers has an excellent community base to warrant a prayer intentions forum, and it seems like there ought to be the ability to facilitate that somehow, if not in an identical way to the current way.

By way of analogy, because that would be like chopping a Christmas tree out of the ground, and expecting one branch to keep growing indefinitely.

CAF isn’t a collection of separately-hosted web pages, connected by external links. CAF is one single website, and within it are stored several threads. When the plug gets pulled on CAF, every thread within CAF will disappear.

Oh, your comment edited moments after I posted mine. Haha.

I can’t speak for the web hosts, so I’ll just defer to their published letter in which they announced the upcoming shut down.

It sounds like a decision already made. I’m only trying to alert you to the fact that you might want to use the next couple weeks to migrate to one of the new forums, rather than spend your energy trying to get a past-tense business decision overturned here.

Ah, I’d forgotten that CAF is its own whole directory within catholic.com. That makes sense from a practical site architecture level. But I really think the Prayer Intentions is such a good thing that would help so many people who might not have been helped otherwise, that it’s worth continuing somehow regardless of if the current setup wouldn’t facilitate it. I’d be willing to donate for that cause.

Link to that? Do you mean the post in the Patrons board or something else?

It’s the letter from Christopher Check that you see if you log out of CAF then back in again.

(Careful not to do that if you don’t remember your password!)

I think a screenshot is floating around somewhere but I forget where.

As far as alternative forums though, here’s a link to a list of those:

Working list of alternative Catholic forums and similar media Evangelization
I would like to begin keeping a list of alternative Catholic forums to replace this one due to the impending shutdown of CAF on December 31, 2020. There are no forums that are near substitutes for CAF in terms of the size or volume of posts. This is actually a good thing IMHO. Thus, what follows is a list of smaller forums for your consideration. Take some time to consider supporting one or more of them. Please ensure that additions to this list are in communion with the Holy See. There are m…

The Prayer Intentions forum in St. Isidore’s Lounge is very active. Jus’ sayin’.
