Hi All,
I know there is a verse in Scripture, in the letters I think, that talks about not changing words in Scripture. Can any one tell me where this verse is?

thanks

I believe you are referring to Revelation 22:18-19: “I warn every one who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if any one adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book, and if any one takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.”

Of course, this verse must be read in context and according to the author’s intention. In this case John is only talking about the revelation of Christ which he received in his vision and not to the Bible as a whole (which didn’t even exist at the time).

Isn’t there a verse like that in Daniel, too??
The verses you are thinking of from Daniel say that he (Daniel) was to “shut up” the words given to him until the “end time,” which is another kind of thing and has no bearing on the quote from Revelation 22:18-19. The verses from Daniel refer to the time of the Messiah, whose conception and birth would usher in the end times, which we have been living in ever since Jesus’ conception and birth.

There is also a similar verse at the end of Deuteronomy.
Do you mean these verses?

Deut. 32:[45] And when Moses had finished speaking all these words to all Israel,
[46] he said to them, “Lay to heart all the words which I enjoin upon you this day, that you may command them to your children, that they may be careful to do all the words of this law.
[47] For it is no trifle for you, but it is your life, and thereby you shall live long in the land which you are going over the Jordan to possess.”

Whole Bible Old Testament New Testament
Type a word or phrase (without quotes) to search the text of the Bible only. You cannot find topical words, such as purgatory, homosexuality, rapture, etc. You can find, pray for the dead, lie with a man, coming of Our Lord, etc. This is a literal search and priority is given to the order of the words. For searching on possessive tense, you must use the apostrophe, (i.e. woman’s). Operators AND, OR, and NOT are not effective at this time. It is not necessary to use capital letters, typing adam will find Adam. The search may improve in the future, becoming synonym-wise, allowing topical searches, and searching footnotes and chapter descriptions

Thanks for the link. I search the Bible online quite often at the USCCB website and this search engine blows theirs away! 👍

Thanks Della that is what I was looking for and thanks to the member that posted the address for the bible search engin.

Thanks, Valke2, for that reference. 🙂

The reason we’re discussing this is because there are some Christians who are “Bible only” Christians who use such verses to support their position that all anyone needs is the Bible to decide matters of faith and morals. Of course, that doesn’t work even for them, but never mind–they think they see it supported in the Bible, so it must be true.

This is the consequence of people taking Bible verses out of context, stringing them together and viola! coming up with a belief they wanted to believe to begin with. Very poor reading of Scripture, very poor method of interpretation, wouldn’t you say?
