Please help me with Indulgences.

I purchased “God’s Perfect Plan Purgatory…” by Tim Staples. As I understood what Mr. Staples was saying on indulgences, we can “give” our indulgences to others who are in the state of grace but need help in some areas of their lives. I am teaching a Bible class and informed them of this. But today I read on a Catholic site that indulgences may be given only to souls in purgatory. Please help. Lillian
