Hey guys, since I can’t see the priest that I usually confide with, I thought I’d run this by

you. Basically I have this video game in which you can drive around a city, and in a poor

display of toilet humor you will infrequently see a streaker running on the sidewalk. Now,

all private parts are unseeable since they are censored/blocked out. Up until yesterday I

never thought anything about this, since no privates are visible, I never went onto the

game to see this, and it never aroused any kind of lust. However, yesterday it sprung

upon me that this probably isn’t something I should be doing so I promptly turned it off

and decided to delete it. Not long after I began worrying this may have been a mortal

sin. I’m well aware of the 3 conditions for a sin to be mortal, but I usually have a hard

time discerning due to scrupulosity. First off, I still don’t even if this was grave matter.

Pornography clearly is, but considering nothing is really shown, and that the game

doesn’t list nudity on the rating, I never saw it as porn, and still have a difficult time

labeling as that. I also don’t know concerning the full knowledge part. I never even

thought about this until yesterday, and when I did, I stopped immediately. I’ve heard that

if you commit a mortal sin, you would not have to ask if you did, since to commit a

mortal sin you would have to know that what you were doing was mortal at the monent. For

example, I have an urge to masturbate, think about doing it and its consequences and the

mortality of it, yet still do it, that would be mortal. In this case, the idea of this being mortal

never entered my mind til after the fact, but on the other hand, if this is pornography I should

have known.

The worst part of this is that I carelessly let a younger sibling play this, and despite them

not noticing this, or being of the age to have any suggestive thoughts it clearly wasn’t a

good idea. Now I’m full of guilt and anxiety, and as I said before I won’t be able to see

my confessor for 2 weeks. So I’m asking what you think about this, and I hope you can

possibly give me some guidance, on if I should refrain from receiving the Eucharist, and

go to Reconciliation on Saturday, or just wait to see my usual confessor.

Thank you and sorry for the long post.

While I think the video game and the streaking is inappropriate and probably not the best to be watching, I don’t think it could be considered porn. Not all nudity is porn. In fact, some nudity is in sacred art! Your game is far from sacred art, but it also doesn’t sound like porn, either.

As always, be on the safe side and as soon as you get a chance, tell a priest in confession, especially about letting your younger sibling play the game. I don’t think what you did was a mortal sin, but it could be a sin of omission, irresponsibility, and negligence on your part.

It sounds to me like you’re fine.

First of all, playing the game doesn’t sound like a grave matter in itself anyway (if it were a near occasion of mortal sin, then it would be - but that’s not the case for you). Furthermore, even if it was, it seems obvious you wouldn’t have had full knowledge. From what you wrote, I’m assuming the case is the same with letting the younger sibling play it? At the time it never occurred to you that there could be a problem with it? If so, then I believe you’re fine on both counts - so, no need to get to confession about it, and no need to abstain from the Eucharist.

Exactly, it never crossed my mind that it could be severly wrong until recently for some reason.
