Mr Brothers & Sisters:

I was talking last week with one of the Janitors who works at the school I still attend whose friends call her “El” (good for me as I wasn’t able to remember her real name after 3 tries).

She told me during this conversation that her husband, Ellery, has been disabled for the past two years, and that they’ve understood why for only the last year or so. It turns out the problem was a tumor in the rear of Ellery’s brain in the area which controls and coordinates motor function and respiration. He has required assistance going to the restroom, showering and eating (someone has to feed him) and has had to be dressed for at least a year. He was on a pureed diet until recently, when he was put on a mechanically softened diet.

He hasn’t been able to work since November, 2005. Because of that, he applied for Social Security Supplimental Insurance at least a year ago (His wife didn’t know if he had applied for Social Security Disability - She was left out of the loop until recently). Believe it or not, the Social Security Administration rejected his claim claiming that he wasn’t disabled enough/would recover within a year. Naturally, his wife found the form and appealed (he’s in the hospital and wasn’t able to do it).

I’ve advised El to contact Ellery’s “social worker” to see what they’ve done, to send a letter to Social Security describing in detail what I just briefly described to you (including what a day is like for Ellery (including how much assistance he really needs) and to apply for California State Disability (just in case El still has a couple of eligible quarters he can still use).

And, Now, I’m going to ask you to pray that someone at the Social Security Administration will have enough intelligence to see that Ellery already has had at least a year of being unable to do any meaningful work, and that his condition won’t improve enough in the next 4 or 5 years for him to be able to be trained to do meaningful non-manual work, let alone do that work.

I also beg that you pray that the Lord repair Ellery’s motor functions and he regain his abilities to walk, eat and otherwise take care of himself.

As an aside, please pray that the Lord soften the hearts and transform the minds of those who for the SSA so that they understand their job is to make sure that those who apply for SSD & SSI are eligible, or not, for it by sending those people to doctors and other health professions who specialize in those people’s disabilities (NOT sending someone with 2 ulcerated discs to an INTERNIST or with recuring vertigo for a hearing exam & then rejecting his application 3 times making false statements in the first 2).

Thank you for your prayers.

Your Brother in Christ, Michael

I pray for Ellery and his wife, that they might get through this ordeal. I pray that the lord will heal him, and that they find someone sympathetic to their plight.

Will keep El in daily prayer…

***O God, we believe in your divine healing power. I pray that you heal this man of his physical ailments, his spiritual ailments and his financial ailments. Father, please help his wife to complete the paperwork for SS office. Father I also humbly ask that the administration at the SS office react swiftly to assist this family with much needed financial aid.
You alone are the Divine Healer! You have seen the SS administration abuse and be abused. You know those with true needs Lord. May all who need the support of SS be provided with it… May all those who don’t be denied…

In Jesus name I pray… AMEN***
