My 37 year old son David has been diagnosed with severe anxiety disorder. Not too long after the covid virus hit here in NYS (March) he thought he had symptoms, had a covid test which was negative. Since then he has become progressively worse. He lost his job, his apt and his car. He has been to 7 hospital emergency rooms over and over, using his sister’s car, Dave has also had 9 covid tests…all negative. Our primary care doctor issued an authorization for the police to take him to C-Pep (mental wing of the hospital), even then he signed himself out. His plea “Mom, you’re all I have, please don’t leave me” is breaking my heart. When given anxiety meds he doesn’t take them because he is convinced he has either a heart or stomach condition. This is a nightmare that I’m afraid I won’t wake up from. I pray the Divine Mercy chaplet once or twice a day and the Rosary. I have said every novena I can think of. I don’t know how to trust God anymore, lately they’ve just been words. I post this with the hope I can get some advice for both of us. Everyday is worse than the day before.

Please don’t stop praying or trusting in God. But the other side of the coin as I’m sure you know is we are to do what we can as well. It’s very sad, but you can only “lead a horse to water, you can’t make it drink” as the old saying goes. My heart goes out to you as I’ve been in a similar position with someone close to me, though it wasn’t for anxiety but another condition. All you can do is keep trying to convince him to take his medicines, see a psychiatrist or a psychologist as well. I’m not sure, but isn’t there a section under the law where someone can be forcefully admitted to the psychiatric ward of the hospital and kept there until the doctors discharge them? This happened to my relative.

Mary, mother of Jesus, please be a mother to this person and David and obtain the help he so desperately needs, now. Amen.

I promise you to pray for David, every day until he is better, so please let us know! God bless, Anne

I will pray for David tonight.

God is listening, even if nothing is improving yet for your son. I too have been asking God to help my oldest son for almost 2 years now but not seeing much improvement.

Hail Mary,
Full of Grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit
of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil, may God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O’ Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God thrust into Hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

Prayer for a Miracle

God of all creation, you who spoke a simple command and brought forth light from
the darkness, I ask you now to send forth your miracle-working power to heal ( David). You cleansed the lepers, opened the eyes of the blind and by
speaking a simple command, you empowered the crippled to rise up and walk.
You sent forth your life-giving power to all those in need, including those you raised from
the dead. I ask you to send forth your healing power into David’s body and give him the strength to fight his illness. I ask this through my Lord, Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen

Prayer to St. Dymphna

Lord, our God, You graciously chose St. Dymphna
as patroness of those afflicted with mental, emotional,
and nervous disorders. She is thus an inspiration and
a symbol of charity to the thousands who ask her
intercession.

We beg You, Lord, to hear St. Dymphna’s prayers
on their behalf. Grant relief and consolation to all
suffering such trials (especially David). Please fill
them with hope and grant them the cure they so desire.

We ask this through Christ our Lord, who suffered
agony in the garden. Amen.

I pray that God heals David of his anxiety and that He gives you peace of mind. Amen.

CRV, thank you for your kind words and especially your prayer to Our Lady.
Here in New York State the law states that if a person is not a danger to himself or others he/she cannot be forcefully admitted to a psychiatric unit or hospital. Even though my son said the words “I can’t do this anymore. I’m ending it.” and even though I talked to one of the nurses on the phone explaining what he said, my son was able to discharge himself.
My husband and I are 72 yrs old. I truly don’t know how much longer I can watch my son suffer.
Blessings to you and yours.

Thank you (name removed by moderator). Please don’t stop praying for us.
Blessings to you and yours.

annem, I can’t thank you enough for your promise to pray for my son. I promise to keep everyone updated.

ZemD, please tell me how you didn’t lose your faith and trust in God after seeing little improvement in your son after 2 years. I am trying desperately to hold on to my faith.

My sincere prayers for the emotional health of your son.

Does he speak to a psychologist or psychiatrist as well as taking medication?

While reading your reply I could not stop the tears. Jesus, I am trying with everything I am to trust your will for my son. Please hear my prayers and all those who are praying for us.

Thank you for your prayers. Dave just started taking medication but I have to be standing right by him because I no longer believe him when he tells me he took his meds.
Because this is an anxiety disorder his brain won’t allow him to recognize it’s not physical because our brain is so powerful, it can produce physical symptoms. Your prayers mean everything to me.

O Blood and Water, which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a fountain of Mercy for us, I trust in You!

Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death, Amen.

Eternal Father, I offer you the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your Dearly Beloved Son, Our Lord, Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world.

For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world. x10

Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

There were times when I did “lose my faith” and stopped praying for stretches of time because I thought God wasn’t listening.

But he is always listening, and even though I hate to see my son struggle no matter what I do, there must be a reason for it. I trust God hears my prayers and isn’t answering them for a good reason at this time. I always turn back to God because he is all we have, after this life is over. To deny him would be to deny everything that we know is true. I wish I had a better answer for you or a way to help your son immediately.

I will continue to pray for David and you and your husband, I will add all of you to my nightly prayers.

Please put your trust in God and bring yourself back to God. May by the grace of the Holy Spirit heal David. May he cleaned of what ever the is causing him to have this disorder. May he and yourself walk strong in God. In your name, Jesus amen!
