Beautiful Patrick, thanks for posting. it’s past 3:00 and I’m recently back from midnight mass so maybe I’ll comment a bit more tomorrow…I’m particularly curious about the really old looking one…is that descript enough…lol…where/when does it date from?

You mean the icon or the relief?

The relief is from the 4th century and is actually one of the earliest depictions of the Nativity. (Fun fact: we have earlier depictions of the Adoration of the Magi than the Nativity itself. There’s actually a nice article about it: biblicalarchaeology.org/daily/biblical-topics/new-testament/witnessing-the-divine/) The icon is from the 15th century (provenance: Kastoria, Greece).

Thanks! I liked all but meant the Icon…I MUST go to the catacombs sometimes soon,though!!

By Gods Grace, I’ll go to Lourdes in early spring and other parts of W. Europe, so it’s high time for Rome, I think.
