I do my kids laundry every week. When I do the boys’ (ages 10 and 9) I fold 8-10 pairs of pants/shorts each, and *one *pair of underwear each! Why don’t they change their underwear everyday? I have to ask them each morning after they get dressed, “Did you change your underwear?” When I ask, they say, “Oops. No. I’ll go do it right now.” It’s too funny (and yucky). And what are they doing after they shower? Putting the same underwear back on? Oh help.

Another issue is with the flushing of the toilet. None of the kids in my family seem to be doing this. Everytime I walk into the bathroom, someone has left me a “surprise”. We were at a birthday party over the weekend, and I was in the bathroom at my friend’s house helping my son put on a bandaid. Someone had left a huge “dump” in the toilet at her house! Are other kids having the same issue as mine, or was it one of mine? I could have asked them, but they would all say, “It wasn’t me.” Where oh where did I go wrong???

Oh the joys of having children…er, MEN in the house.

The toilet issue is a huge pet peeve of mine, and it’s not only the kids who do it, the MEN in the house are the biggest (and nastiest) culprits.

I have girls and w/ my 8 year old I set out her clothes in the bathroom for after the shower because she will put them back on too! The funny thing is that my husband is the one who is the tidy clean freak, so its not all men!

Like the ole expression goes, “men will put the toilet seat down when women put the seat back to its original place after they drive the hubby’s car” 😃 😉 I had a buddy of mine that grew so tired of his wife fussing about the toilet seat, he just sat down to go instead of forgetting to do it,HAHA

The toilet seat was an issue for me also when we first got married. We came up with the perfect comprimise…No matter who uses the toilet, all seats are put down before leaving the bathroom. That way you can always expect to have to lift a seat when using the bathroom.

We have the opposite issue (on underpants) - DS will change clothes 3 or 4 times each day, with fresh boxers each time!

Have you ever seen “About Shmidt”? That just reminded me of that movie…

Hi Susie -

I had to chuckle at your post. I raised four children who are now ages 32 to 24. The two middle ones were boys and the youngest boy was a total pig. He would wear old dirty socks, even putting them on upside down–heel on top–briefs on inside out, t-shirt half in half out, zipper half down, hair a mess, you get the picture. No amount of harping changed anything.

Well, it all changed in one day. Girls!!! He discovered the school was full of them and suddenly was showering daily, putting clean clothes on daily, even his socks were on correctly!

Be patient. This too shall pass!!

Marquette

THANKS TO GOD FOR MY REDEEMER!

We have the same problem here. I tell my ds and dh that they must be fashion models to change that often 😃

I told my my oldest son to put on clean underwear and he did! Unfortunately he “forgot” to take off the dirty one. YUK! (he was only 4)

I guess this is what I have to look forward to. My DH leaves me a surprise once in a while, and our first little one isn’t even born yet, so it should be a little while before we get actively into those issues of changing, showering, etc. I have no illusions about diapers, though. I fully expect to have a fashion model of a baby!

I have an eleven year old, up to this day I have to ask every single day, did you brush your teeth, did you had a bath, did you wash under your arms, sometimes he puts on the same clothes after a bath, I have to be constantly monitoring him. Its all in a days job

Be thankful they’ll wear underwear at all.
I took my neice to Mass, and when she asked to go potty, we discovered the door to the building with the bathrooms was locked. She said she couldn’t hold it anymore, so she casually lifted her dress, at which point I was quite shocked to find out she had nothing on underneath. Then she went in the bushes. :o

This one is great, too. When my brother got to be about 13 or 14, we noticed his hair started getting greasy really REALLY fast. Every day, we asked him if he took a shower. “Yes, of course!” Did you wash your hair? “Yes, I wash it every time I shower?” Then how come it looks so greasy? “I guess it’s just wet still.”

This went on for MONTHS! Finally, we were in line to have our family picture taken for the church directory. “So you couldn’t even wash your hair for the picture?” “I did, I swear! Why do you guys always ask me that?” “You do use shampoo, right?” “Yes, I always put that White Rain stuff in it.”

My sister “So THAT’s where all my conditioner keeps going!” He had been washing his hair with conditioner for probably 7 months!!!

I could care less about the toilet seat or which way the toilet paper roll is put on…

ALL’S I WANT IS FOR THEM TO FLUSH!!! :banghead:

…what’s so hard about that?

YES!!! And everything gets thrown in inside out…twice as long to fold…sigh I do love him so tho…lol!

I’ll do laundry and find 6 outfits for DH, 6 outfits for DS, and 5 outfits for DD, and then three shirts of mine, along with 2pairs of my pants, and 6 underwear…LOL! Everything except underwear gets worn more than once before going into the laundry (unless it’s sweaty or dirty dirty…)

:rotfl: Oh no! I have it the other way around. Leave the seat up at all times. That way there is no pee on the seat ( bad aim and lazy…)

Susie:

I have the same problems at my house and just today am thinking of posting a gentle reminder of bathroom rules on the children’s bathrooms doors. Basic things like you mentioned, flushing, closing the toothpaste cap, hair elastics back into their boxes, deoderant put into a cabinet, bathmat off the floor as one leaves the bathroom, towels hanging straigth (actually, just hanging up would be an improvement), drawers closed, underwear in the hamper. I’m not asking my children to be neatniks, just to pick up after themselves. Oh, and to stop dropping enormous blobs of toothpaste in the sink! What a mess. My goal is like what Flylady recommends, which is to clean bathrooms lightly once a day quickly. The end result is that they rarely need weekly cleaning and the bathrooms are “company ready” at a moment’s notice.

I have a better solution…my husband is the only man in the house that can “aim” so he gets to stand and raise the toilet seat…the other two men (14 and 2) have to sit down…otherwise whoever dirties the toilet is cleaning it…keeps the toilet seats clean.
