Other than the Narnia movie, I have found nothing to see in the theaters that is work $7.00:

Even a much-hyped giant gorilla, a geisha and a schoolboy magician won’t be able to create a happy ending at the US box office, as Hollywood ends its most disappointing year in nearly two decades. Plunging movie ticket sales, after a string of uninspiring remakes and movie sequels coupled with an explosion of the DVD and video game markets, are keeping audiences at home and have sent Hollywood into a deep existential crisis

Finally, maybe with this new “crisis” they’ll actually think about making a good movie 😛

Probably not. They are so far outside the mainstream, I do not think they will be able to find their way back. It is going to be the small independants that are going to thrive in this era.

In addition to the money for the ticket (PLUS the overpriced popcorn), who wants to spend two hours in the theatre plus an hour or two getting there and back home… four hours… to watch something that is just not worth the effort.

I got dragged to a movie last year and I tried to get a nap in, it was so bad. I’ve even found that none of the movies on TV are worth the time to watch… the past few months, I’ve just been listening to the radio; there seems to be a lot of variety on radio.

But the movies: What a waste of time!!

The last two decent movies were “The Passion of the Christ” and “Top Gun”.

IMHO.

Have you seen the Narnia movie yet? It is worth it.

The Narnia movie was good, but if I hadn’t wanted to see it so badly I would have waited for the DVD; that is what I’m doing for Serenity. When I went to see Narnia it just reenforced my dislike for theaters.

At home you can hit pause when you really need to go, have food you like to eat that didn’t need a loan to pay for it, and your feet don’t stick to the floor  I walked to my seat and there was sticky stuff everywhere! I was afraid to sit down :big yikes:

Why don’t they do like a failing industry would. Close down hollywood, and let the Chinese make the movies for us. (sarcastic)

Could it be because Americans are so tired of Hollywood? I am. Hollywood lost credibility with its virolent denunciation of the Passion of the Christ.

What is really funny is that they (Hollywood) is pushing Broke Back Mountain as a great movie. For those who don’t know, that is the movie about gay cowboys. It received a total of seven Golden Globe award nominations. They just don’t get it, do they?

Peace

Tim,

You took the words right out of my mouth. When I read the Golden Globe announcements, I just shook my head saying I know there is a reason I do not go to movies anymore.

The last movie I went to see was The Passion of The Christ. I also think Top Gun was the best movie ever played too 😃

At some point even Hollywood will figure out they need paying customers more than Golden Globes or Oscars or whatever.

In accounting the bottom line is the bottom line.

Has any one seen the numbers for Broke Back Mountain? They are horrible and the movie will lose money. Hollywood does not get it…families want Family Movies, they attract people and they make money. I have come to a conclusion…Hollywood does not really want to make money, they really only want to push their anti-christian, anti-traditional family and liberal agendas. My wife and I just recently rented Million Dollar Baby and for the first half of the movie we really enjoyed and then it appeared as the pro-death, pro-euthanasia forces just hijacked the movie.

Plus it is only a limited release movie (5 theaters right now) so it will not make money unless there is a wider release.

I work for Regal theatres and I can tell all of you that the reason the box office is down is because of three things:
  1. Theatre prices are too high.
  2. Hollywood makes movies that just aren’t worth seeing
  3. DVDs are in fact catching up.
My theatre is always sent emails, reassuring us that the industry will be on the rise again. Narnia made $67 million opening weekend but that will go down roughly 30% this weekend. Despite what Hollywood says, things are going down and a lion and a giant gorilla will not save it.

Hollywood can make good movies and profits if they stay away from high power celebrity. Hits like LOTR, Spiderman, Harry Potter, Narnia, etc., don’t have big name celebrity, but still do pretty good. Famous celebrity with wacko agendas will definitely ruin box office success. War of the World is one example.

They’ll make blockbuster cartoons like Shrek for the most part to break even so as to continue to make agenda driven movies like Brokeback (aka The Prairie People). They see it as a vocation. Lets them feel noble, oppressed, etc.

When will we see the ultimate end of the current Hollywood industry? (I.E. the major studios)…and Television/Cable/Satellite isn’t too far behind them either!

Recently I was in a video storer and found NOTHING appealing to me. Even some comedies from the 1980’s don’t impress me anymore. Sometimes finding the B&W films in the stores is a challenge too.

:et us pray that Mel Gibson and others who create meaningful films become the NEW ‘Hollywood’.

Maybe bootlegs on the internet have something to do with their cut in profits, too…or maybe not.

The thing that gets me, though, is how the number of pre-movie advertisements keeps increasing, even though the ticket prices keep increasing as well. I heard on the news a couple of days ago that it’s going to get worse. It’s just not worth it to me.

We have had a gift certificate for a free movie for two, for almost a year. We haven’t seen anything we would like to see. Ah, maybe someday.
