Poetic justice, or just nature doing its thing?

Our priest related this story to us one Sunday, during the homily:

When he was in seminary, he had a hummingbird feeder hung outside of his window, where he could watch the hummers feed.

Every day, the small birds would come and suck up the nectar water in the holder. And, every day, this very large hummingbird, much larger than all the rest, would come and bully the smaller birds away from the feeder, and proceed to hog all the nectar water for itself.

Then, one day, this large hummer was flying at and attacking the smaller birds, when, all of a sudden, Father saw a pair of talons swoop down and snatch that large bully, and carry it off.

There was an obvious moral to that story. Bullies of the world had better look out!

Then again, it was probably just a hungry raptor grabbing prey to feed its young.

Still, not a bad parable.

That’s nature, only the strong survive.

Also, not every bully or bad person gets their just deserts here on earth.

Matthew 5:45

”He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.”

I think the hummingbird, like the hawk, are simply doing what the Father intended.

True. Still, it might cause some bullies to think twice? Considering things that COULD happen?

I guess. There was a hawk flying around town last month with an arrow shot through it. Fortunately, it was captured and treated by wildlife rehabilitators, but there’s a good example of a real bully who has been given the God given ability to think twice.
