Point me to Jesus' Wrath, please

I am seeing that some people choose to see Christ as a big Teddy Bear - just all fuzzy, lovey, and dovey. People that see Him only this way, tend to think that everytyhing is relative and that they can do as they please, since God forgives all…they deny that there are underlying truths and principles in our faith. Christ is the perfection of love, compassion, charity and much more, this is true and we can trust in Him. But we can’t mock Him. He means business and there are times when he has showed that. Can you help me complie some of those scriptural instances for me to read and reflect on.
 
St. John 8:31-45

In this part…verses 42-44 in particular.

Jesus said to them, If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and am here; I did not come on my own, but he sent me.

Why do you not understand what I am saying? Because you cannot bear to hear my word.

You belong to your father the devil and you willingly carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in truth, because there is no truth in him. When he tells a lie, he speaks in character, because he is a liar and the father of lies.
 
Revelation 6:16

Matt 7:21-23 “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Matt 25:1-13 (11-12) “Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.”

Luke 13:23-30 (25-28) “When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are:. Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets. But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all [ye] workers of iniquity. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you [yourselves] thrust out.”

Gal 6:7 “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.”

I pulled these from the King James, but they should work in any version. Hope this helps!

NOTE - The gospel verses are things Jesus said (can’t argue with Him, right?)
 
I don’t have the reference, but the thing that sprang to mind for me was the time Jesus threw the money changers out of the temple.

13 The Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 14 In the temple he found those who were selling oxen and sheep and pigeons, and the money-changers at their business. 15 And making a whip of cords, he drove them all, with the sheep and oxen, out of the temple; and he poured out the coins of the money-changers and overturned their tables. 16 And he told those who sold the pigeons, “Take these things away; you shall not make my Father’s house a house of trade.” 17 His disciples remembered that it was written, “Zeal for thy house will consume me.”

OTOH, some make him a satanic figure, full of almost nothing but hate… 😦 :eek:​

 
There are consequences for rejecting the Messiah, but only He can judge our hearts.

As he drew near, he saw the city and wept over it, saying, "If this day you only knew what makes for peace–but now it is hidden from your eyes. For the days are coming upon you when your enemies will raise a palisade against you; they will encircle you and hem you in on all sides. They will smash you to the ground and your children within you, and they will not leave one stone upon another within you because you did not recognize the time of your visitation Then Jesus entered the temple area and proceeded to drive out those who were selling things, saying to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be a house of prayer, but you have made it a den of thieves.’” (Luke 19:41-46)

First and foremost, I hope and pray that you enter any discussion with gentleness and respect.

Some of this is repetitive with above, but here are the passages that leap to my mind:
  • Throwing the money changers from the temple in John 2
  • The series of exchanges between Christ and the Pharisees in that occurs across John 5 and 7-10. This describes a series of conflicts that a couple of friends and I refer to as “The Smackdown.” There is a LOT to read and digest here.
  • The dialogue of the seven woes in the last half of Matthew 23
  • Parable of Lazarus and the Rich Man in the back half of Luke 16
 
If you happen to be fruit tree then you best be prepared to bear fruit whenever Jesus wants a snack. In season or out. Otherwise a curse is sure to follow.

I know, I know - you think you’re being funny. (And you are! 😃 )

But actually, you’re right! :eek:

Did you ever see the movie “A Man for All Seasons”, about Thomas More and his refusal to kowtow to the King, even though it cost him his life? This parable is what the title of that movie was referring to - that we’re expected to be ready to stick to our principles - in all seasons, ready or not.

So thanks for your very lucid interpretation, there.
