This is not the thread for important questions about Catholicism. It’s the thread for questions that have absolutely no practical application whatsoever.

My first question is - could a priest apply the blessing for salt to one of those himalayan salt lamps? If so, would the lamp repel demons?

Living in a state of grace is what repels demons.

“Resist the devil and he will flee from you”.

Yes, basically any object can be blessed, a car, a home, a medal, a pet, a bike, a lamp.

The blessing for salt is different from a general blessing though. And blessed salt is used for the protection of places from evil spirits, similarly to how holy water is used in part for the protection of persons.

I have a pound of blessed salt, blessed by my Diocese Exorcist, in my desk drawer. Thing is, while I’ve gifted some of it to others who ask, I have never needed it myself.

I have a bag I keep intending to get blessed, but when I asked on a retreat I just got a sort of confused look and the generic blessing (which is different from the blessing for salt). So I guess I have blessed salt, but not blessed salt? It’s confusing.

I wouldn’t seriously try to bless a salt lamp, but the idea amuses me.

I often think of putting holy water in the “spray the dog when she barks like mad” water bottle, can’t HURT?

And, seriously, if you want some real exorcised salt, PM me!

Some people cook with the blessed salt.
I have some from Fr Z. He puts the special exorcism blessing on it. It doesn’t seem right to be sprinkling it on my fries, so I’m keeping it for a future use.

I understand the temptation. I periodically threaten my computer with holy water if it’s not behaving.

More seriously, it really does seem to help with sleep and nightmares for me. I keep a little bottle by my bed.

I may. Although I have a semi local friend who would be happy to bless it for me himself, I’m sure. I’m not sure otherwise what to do with blessed but not properly blessed salt.

I’ve heard this myself. I’m with you that sprinkling it on your fries just seems off. But I’ve considered putting it in the broth I fix when I’m sick.

How about putting it into the water bottle used to spray cats that claw the furniture instead of using their scratching posts?
