Perhaps I’m in the minority, here, but I wonder if there’s some consensus for this idea. I’d start this myself but I’m clueless when it comes to cyber efforts like starting polls.

I would like there to be a poll for whether the three issues of “transsexualism,” “intersexualism,” (is that a word?), and “transgender” should be banned. I say that because I think these are esoteric topics for a general-interest Catholic messageboard. Most posters here have very little knowledge/competence to discuss the topic, and thus there is little possibility of finding common ground with those who suffer or believe they are suffering with a verifiable condition.

Given that…
(1) There have to be very few contributors to this board with actual intimate knowledge of these conditions through personal experience or experience of someone close to them;
AND
(2) There are probably very few real theological experts on CAF with the training/education to tackle this in a credible and effective way
AND
(3) The topics are controversial
AND
(4) The potential for hurt is grave
AND
(5) The topics continually come up, with no new resolution or even common language and understanding

It seems to me that a moratorium might be in order.

Does anyone agree with me and want to start a poll?

I am not for the banning of any topics. If you don’t believe me go back in my posting history and take a look at my posts on non approved( for lack of a better expression) Marian apparitions. You will find I got hung out to dry about Medugorje. I like controversy it show people’s true colors in many cases. I try my best not to hide my true colors, although I’m not always successful.

I disagree. The subject is certainly of interest to those who choose to participate in those discussions. Uninterested persons are free not to participate.

There are numerous other controversial subjects of interest to relatively few forum participants, such as whether Catholic Churches should have coat racks. I would not care to have these discussions banned either. Of course, if the moderators do decide to ban a specific topic, I will comply.

Sorry I forgot to comment on this before.

There is already a forum rule against soliciting or proffering financial, legal, medical, or mental health advice. So it is not necessary to ban all discussion on a given topic on the basis that forum participants are not competent to offer a medical or psychiatric diagnosis.

“intersexualism,” (is that a word?)
I visited the website of the Intersex Society of North America to see what they prefer. Most of the time they seem to use the word “intersex.” For example, “children with intersex” or “how intersex is treated.” But the word “intersexuality” does appear on the homepage. 🤷

As for banning discussion of this topic, or the topics of transgenderism and transsexualism, I suppose my voice doesn’t count much since I am new here and I am not Catholic. But my guess is that mainstream sites for those conditions don’t look at the Catholic Church’s attitudes, actions or policies. A large Catholic site such as this one might be the best hope for anyone affected by those relatively rare conditions to get the information they need. For example, I saw a post today which cited a canon lawyer’s understanding of the Catholic Church’s position on persons with intersex.
