Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) – A new poll shows a plurality of Americans want abortion funding banned in any health care “reform” legislation that becomes law. The Rasmussen survey also shows that just 13 percent want the health care bills to make it a requirement that abortions are funded.

It may be irrelevant unless Congress also agrees with the sentiment.

My own view, for the little its worth, is that whilst Obama and co. would dearly love to have abortion funding built in they are prepared to ditch the notion in a symbolically important attempt to gain acquiescence for some sort of enhanced nationalisation of the US health industry.

Or simply hide the abortion funding. One could read through the entire health care bill proposed and not find explicit mention of abortion funding. Yet the USCCB found that it would pay for abortion. So did factcheck.org. And if the bill gives the HHS secretary the power to mandate a required benefits package, abortion funding could turn up by simple regulatory fiat. Never underestimate the ingenuity of a regulator to whom the power to execute legislation has been delegated.
